Best Trailer Hitch Lock for Class V, 2.5 inch ?

I'm looking for a high security, dependable lock for my hitch ball mount. Price is not a major factor.

I have a 2.5 inch, Class V hitch on my RAM 3/4 ton and would like a locking hitch pin that is corrosion and theft resistant.

What have you found that fits the bill?

I would recommend the BOLT 5/8" Receiver Lock. You can get one that can be keyed alike (by you) to your RAM ignition key. BOLT also makes padlocks and cable locks that can by keyed to your ignition key.

Unfortunately, according to their website, they don't offer one for the RAM 2500/3500 series. Good idea though.

I just drilled out the hole a little bigger and use a padlock instead of a clip.

I think the OP is looking for a locking pin for his receiver, not the coupler. However, BOLT also makes a padlock that can be keyed to your ignition key and it fits through the coupler latch and is long enough to secure your chains when parked. You may not want to padlock your connected trailer to the hitch ball in case you need to quickly disconnect in an emergency.

You’re looking for one that says “RAM 2500” - it doesn’t. Just look under the Dodge Pickup section. They use the same key type for all of the trucks and some Jeeps; and it’s be right size too.

Hitch locks are weight rated, so you won’t necessarily see one that says “Class V”, but instead 2.5” receiver compatibility

You drilled out your receiver (the tube on your TV that the ball mount goes into) and the ball mount hole larger than 5/8"?

No.....I drilled the existing hole in the 3 buck hitch pin out a little larger so I could put a padlock in the hole to secure the pin instead of a wire clip.

I see, you were talking about the coupler lock, not the receiver locking pin.

Thanks, a picture is worth a thousand words. My original hitch pin doesn't have a hole, so I couldn't figure out what you were describing.

Gotcha.....My concern wasn't so much for theft than it was the fear of someone pulling out the clip as a "joke". I have three tow vehicles. I didnt want to spend 100 bucks on locking pins....If theft by were my top concern, I may have upgraded padlocks from the 2 buck flea market variety to a name brand....lol

I wanted one made in the US and very strong. After all, it's keeping your entire rig attached.
So after a lot of research I found this one:

The Tundra has a very stout receiver and the 2" one doesn't fit, so I added a couple of rubber hose washers to take up the slack (5/8"!)

BTW, if you watch the YouTube videos, any pin lock will leave you depressed. A determined thief takes a piece of pipe about the size of your lock cylinder, slips it over, bends the lock and it snaps like a twig! Two seconds and he's got your hitch.
As always, it keeps the "opportunist" away.
Usually, that's enough.
