Bent Reese SnapUp Bracket

Hi need expert answers..


- i have 2006 19' Bambi

- drive. 2013 2500 Suburban

- reese weight bars

- reese friction sway control bar on one side.

- my curb side snap up is bend and somewhat pushed up fron channel

Questions

- what weight bars should I be using for my car and size Airstream? I know if they r too heavy inside rivets can pop out.

- I take the friction sway bar off when backing up

- Should I take the weight bars off everytime I back up? That would require putting jack down, lifting whole TT/TV and removing. Then my car would not be straight and even.

- who would set my car to proper setup, Airstream dealer, Reece Dealer, or an RV dealer?,

- why did it bend?

Thank you for help....I travel alone and need to be as prepared and educated as possible. The car is new.

How about a picture of the bent part?

The bars should be 600lbs. for your rig.

Consider getting rid of the friction plate and getting the Reese straight line system so you don't have to remove things when backing up.

The only way to set up a Reese system is to do it your self. To do it right it takes far too long for a dealer to do it and thus they will not do it right.

A less expensive and better way to go would be to install an Andersen system.

I had a bracket bend on me also. Not sure what caused it, but I had just come down the Wind River switchbacks in Wyoming/Utah. That experience is what pushed me to get a Hensley.

I purchased a couple and will send one to you if you still need it.

I had one bend years ago. The bolt that provided pressure to lock it on the A frame of the trailer loosened up with time. Backing the trailer at an angle put pressure on the bracket and it bent since it was not being held tight in the A frame.

It is not a bad idea to remove the load bars and any friction bars prior to backing at extreme angles. This would be at the limits just before something hits. The only time I need to do that is when I am backing in the yard where I don't have much room and the tow vehicle is almost 90 degrees to the trailer.
