Atwood coupler won't latch

Howdy!

Before trip last week I installed new Atwood hitch pawl (latch).

The shark fin and all are in great shape.

Probl appears to be damage around lower edge of the Atwood not allowing new awl to slide in.

Do you have any pictures so we can see the problem to better solve it?

From the grease mark on the latching part it looks like the latch is not pulling back and it is sitting on the top of the ball. Open the latch and look from underneath and see if the latch opens up enough so the ball will go up and into the coupler. You may have to take it apart and compare the old latch with the new one and see what is different. If you do post more pictures.

Ok,

Here is pic.. The problem is that the rear of the coupler has been mashed upwards on the street side. This won't allow the new pawl to slide in. I believe a careful filing will allow new pawl to seat.

The old pawl latches behind ball because it is worn "just enough"... One of those "wear fitmemt" things we see sometimes.

Thanks for encouragement to get better pics. That saved me getting out the BFH and wailing on it.
