Anyone have Hensley for 23' or less?

We are getting our choice narrowed down, 23' Safari SE, LS, with or without the gen-prep.

Our sales lady at Bates suggests the Equal-i-zer hitch, as do other AS owners.
She demonstrated how it works and I am sure I could hitch it. But, so many love their Hensley, that I want to make sure I get it right this time.

Does anyone use a Hensley on a 23' or less AS? Our TV is a 4wd 2500 8.1.

I don't know if you need the Hensely or not with your TV ,that chevy 3/4
will be great for that ,but the hensely will stop all the drama that other hitches have ,due to the design that does not allow any sway .anyone who has used one stays with it .

I'm sorry I don't know anything about your hitch.....I live just down the road from from Bates RV here in Plant City and just wanted to say hey to a neighbor. Hey Neighbor! (And now back to your regular scheduled programming.)

At least one Airstream dealer, Roger Williams Airstream here in Texas, refuses to sell any Airstream no matter how small without a Hensley. Hensley has no dealer network. Roger Williams or any other dealer receives no commission on a Hensley. Roger Williams looses a number of sales by taking this position because every trailer they sell costs the customer the additional cost of the Hensley; however, they believe so strongly that as a dealer they have a responsibilty to the public to only sell a trailer with the safest equipment installed and that is a Hensely Arrow.

We pull a 25' Safari with a 2500 Suburban using a Hensley Arrow. We have used it now for about 12,000 miles. We have not experienced a single incident of trailer sway. Passing semis and cross winds have absolutely no impact on our rig.

We have the HAHA on our 22ft Intl CCD. Pull it with a GMC Denali 6.0l. Works great. No drama experiences in over 10,000 miles of intermountain driving out West.

I used a HA with my 1995 21' Sovereign, mostly because I was using a Ford Bronco as the TV, and was concerned with the short wheel base and high center of gravity of the Bronco. A couple of years later I got a 2500 Suburban, and went back to a regular equalizing hitch because it was too hard to hook up the HA on the uneven camp sites at National Forest Service Campgrounds (others may have had better success - I found the HA easy to hitch on paved or level surfaces, but the NFS campsites were typically pitched from side to side, and I never learned an easy way to rehitch when it was time to leave). I never had any trouble with sway or keeping control with the 21' & the Suburban and the regular hitch - your mileage may vary!

The real test, though, may be if you ever get into an emergency situation requiring extreme steering to avoid an accident or road hazard. Most people seem to agree that the HA provides improved control - even though it may not be 'necessary' for normal towing.

If cost is not an issue and you are confident you can hitch up with the HA (on whatever kind of campgrounds you're going to be at), it's lkely the HA would give you trouble free towing and improved safety margins.

Hensley Hitch on 19' Bambi

We have had a Hensley Hitch on our 2002 19' Bambi since we bought it new. We had never pulled a trailer before, had a moderately short-wheelbase towing vehicle (our present tow vehicle also has a quite short wheelbase), and did not want to have any negative experiences while towing. Well, those experiences have occurred, but none have been related to sway or the hitch. We have towed in Mojave sandstorms, snow, rain, and glorious sunshine and the hitch has always performed exactly as advertised.

Decision made

Two days ago, we bought a new 2007 23' Safari with a Hensley! The AS is in OH. They had the fp and colors I wanted. The dealer is going to install a Hensley and curb side and back awnings. If we had not bought the Hensley now, I would have probably bought one later down the line. So, decided to just do it!

We are going to try and pick up the AS next Friday, if the weather is good and the AS is ready. It is 1175 miles to Columbus. Nice first trip home for our AS and Hensley.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and information. The next decision will be what size generator to put in the back of our Avalanche. Will probably be a Yamaha 3000eisB (?) or something like that.
