30/34' slide out tongue weigh question

Hello all,
I am upgrading from my 25' Safari FB to either (depending on whether I find a 2007-2009 model) a 30' or 34' slide out classic. I have read so many conflicting and confusing hitch discussions that my brain is fried....here is my question: do I need to modify the hitch receptical on my 2008 Silverado 2500 HD to pull the slide outs due to their additional tongue weight? It appears the there is a 1000 lb limit on the hitch receiver but then I read about someone pulling a 34 with a Tundra? a 3/4 ton Yukon? What would not only be the safest but most practical means of towing the slide outs with respect to hitch since the truck is powerful enough. I apologize for any redundancy from previous posts. Thanks for your patience and I am grateful for your experienced opinions. Joe

I note that there are inexpensive 12,000 gvw/1,200 tongue weight hitches available for your rig.

Our 2005 Suburban OEM hitch permanently deformed under the mighty load of the 30S/O.
We replaced with a REESE Class V (Be sure to get the 2" receiver).

Class V hitch important for 30 S/O!

Yes, I converted to a class 5 too, because of the OEM receiver problems. I found a Curt for less than $200 and put it right on to pull my 30 S/O. It's a real beefy receiver and holds the HA real well. I'm pulling with a 4x4 CC 2500HD and I had to use a 6" drop on it. Good luck with your conversion.

I found the receiver went on without a problem.

The previous owner of my truck must have owned a welder. He took a standard Valley reciever and built it into the cowboy bumper and then some. Maybe an extra 75 lbs of metal under there. I bet if I had enough weight I could get my dually crewcab to do a wheelie!.. and the bumper would still be intact. So I decided to add another 80 lbs to the tongue weight and purchase the airsafe hitch. The S/O can push you around a bit and the airsafe will really calm that down. Make sure to post pictures... we love pictures..
