I know, I know, if you bought a bed liner into the other trucks it would protect them as well.....but maybe not....even a good bed liner will still transfer some force to the bed material behind it.

Hi, I saw this on the SOB forum. More BS from Government Motors. Now if someone neutral like TFL did this test, it might be believable. An empty sheet metal tool box would not do this type of damage. One with half inch plate steel in the bottom would. Also cement blocks don't make sharp cuts in metal. I would love to see Ford sue the crap out of GM for this rigged demonstration.

You have to really focus on "overall" anymore with regard to a product like a truck. This one has better this or that one has better that certainly may sway one's personal opinion. There are many hidden issues with the big three that are more difficult to dig up regarding engine longevity and other features.

Your selection may be based on interior or power but for the sake of Airstreaming it really comes down to payload and towing capability. In the past, the Ridgeline, with its lower capability was not a contender. Consider the technologies being offered by the companies and how they are currently addressing power and mpg. Ford is using smaller engines, turbos and lighter materials. GM is using bigger engines with deactivation technology and more gears. Dodge is using more gears and a small diesel. Read about the modern turbo and issues, if any, then read about cylinder deactivation tech and admitted issues by GM and Honda then weigh the turbo MTBF against the cylinder deactivation MTBF. As consumers that is all we can do before we make our choice. Some technologies are beneficial in particular ways and may not be of little benefit to consumers in the big picture. This is true with the rotary engine for example- excellent benefits but...

The bed issue is a problem if you drop heavy pointed objects into the unprotected bed of a Ford. I got that one. I have a thick plastic bed liner and had that in all trucks I have owned. I also have never thrown my tool box into the bed. I only saw that "viral video" as a way to exploit a weakness based on the choice of aluminum. I still am betting that in a few years GM will start using aluminum and all this metal attack will cease. The thing is, Ford, by acquiring Range Rover for those years, gained their experience in working with the aluminum. That is a plus. If, in their generation 2 of the 3.5 ecoboost have addressed some issues along with the 10 speed, I believe we will see another leap forward in truck mpg and power that will be difficult for the others to counter without some risky changes as well. I am betting on the 2017 F150.

But you guys are only thinking AS style retail. I work fleet. Landscapers, contractors etc. buy 30k trucks and abuse them. I wouldn't use my 50K truck like that either. Maybe block on a palate, or rent a trailer or truck, but that isn't how many truck owners think. They think of it as a tool and nothing more.
