Will my Nissan Frontier pickup tow a 19 bambi ?

I am new at this. I have a Nissan frontier pickup. Tow rating is 5000 lbs. I am hoping to pick up a 19' Bambi (4500 lbs") and bring her home. The trip is about 800 miles. The tongue weight is 590 and the truck is rated for 550. Should I attempt this or search out another vehicle? Thanks. Doug

Your close but with a weight distribution hitch and anti sway you should do fine. The 19" Bambi is more like 3800 dry weight so your Nissan should pull it. Does it have the tow package? My Acura came with transmission coolers and a power steering cooler. I'd check it out first with the dealership. Bit I wouldn't toe without the WD and anti sway.

I towed my '06 19CCD for 4 years with a fully loaded Sprinter van that was also rated at 5000# tow and 500# tongue weight. Used an Equal-I-Zer hitch and never had a problem towing until I lost the turbo, alternator and transmission in a 5 day period 2 years ago right about this time of year. OUCH!!!! Was that ever expensive (out of warranty too!)

It was the van that was over-rated by Mercedes, but had no issues with the actual towing process at all. Just be sure that you get a good weight distribution hitch with anti-sway and you should be fine.

Thanks guys for the advice. Feeling better about it today. Sounds like a visit to the dealer is a good idea before I head off on my journey. Doug

I have towed both my Bambi 19' and Soverign 21' (5,500 lb) with a 2008 Nissan Frontier with a 6 speed manual transmission (6,500 tow rating) and am completely satisfied with the performance. The Nissan is superior to the Ford F150 with V-8 and automatic that I had used previously.

A WD hitch and sway control are good advice! Don't forget the electric brake controller too.

I'm a noob towing a 16 ft. Sport with a new V6 Frontier, and I am very happy with the performance. I am a bit lighter, but I feel confident.
