Yeah...we do too here in Western N.Y. But there's already talk of

selling it to other parts of the Country. We can only hope for the best.

There are a lot of good ideas expressed here
as to the reason for diesel prices, but they're
all insignificant factors. The real reason is...

...because I bought one!

Either something in my cart will need
a price check or the paper tape in the
cash register will run out!

That was my thoughts, too. But there are ways around that using alternative energy sources such as a combination of renewables like solar, wind, geothermal, and even ocean currents to provide the electricity. A lot of pie in the sky, but who would have ever dreamed of running a car on water...well, I have but I had no idea of how.

Everybody is afraid of hydrogen since the Hindenburg, but it is no more dangerous than the LP we carry on our Airstreams is proper safety precautions are built into the systems. NASA has used hydrogen fuel cells to provide electricity for the space program since the sixties. Hydrogen gas is lighter than water and the by product of the fuel cell provided was the water the astronauts needed while in orbit.

Hydrogen is far LESS dangerous than the LP we carry.

I recently reread the eyewitness accounts of the Hindenburg disaster. Most of the people made it out alive. In fact, there were three crewmen in the lower vertical fin at the rear right below where the fire first broke out. They escaped unscathed. Why? Because hydrogen floats UP!

So even though it's burning, it floats up and away from the crash.

The biggest problem with hydrogen is its specific energy; that is, it's amount of power per unit of mass. Hydrogen has far less power than gasoline for a given amount, so you live with shorter range or carry a giant fuel tank.

The logical solution would be to use nuclear power to generate the electricity to break down water and produce it. When you burn it, it simply combines with oxygen and forms.....water.

In a conventional hydrogen fuel cell, you are correct. It may also be correct in this example, but if you look at the btu's being talked about in the video, it must be more efficient. The car traveled several hundred miles on four oz. of water. Our sun is powered by hydrogen. Plasma cutters are powered by oxygen. Put the two together and you would have an enormous amount of energy. In a confined space, you might wind up with a bomb, but that can certainly be over come with design and engineering...exhaust any run-away combustion (explosion) out an emergency exhaust port through a top surface of the car. I'm no automotive engineer, but there are ways to develop this as a source of energy for America and if I were a "Bill Gates" or a "Warren Buffett" that's were I'd be looking to invest some of my foundation $$$$'s.
