Which Tranny?

I'm at a crossroad.
Any one recommend the Jasper Transmission as opposed to a Ford remanufactured unit.

Both about the same price?

Anyone....

Michael

Ford (supposedly) incorporates the latest updates into their reman units, plus any Ford dealer can honor the warranty.
Jasper has a very good warranty, but is more involved than simply finding a dealer. Jasper's warranty is somewhat longer duration than Ford's.

I've not heard of the Jasper; I do remember when our Turbo trans went out:
a 350 Ford was towed in with a blow trans. They had both trans side by side,
the mechanic looked at both of us and said, "the Chev can be rebuilt, the
Ford gets replaced."

Go with the Ford if for no other reason than the ease of warranty repair. When you're on the road a Ford dealer could (should) have you going quicker than you can find someone to work with the Jasper warranty.

Make sure that you replace the converter and flush the cooler and lines. Depending on the vehicle there may be an update for the controller as well.

IIRC, his tow vehicle has a 7.3 Powerstroke, and an E4OD transmission.

if i was going to replace a tranny for towing,i would check out a rebuilder like ats or one of the rebuilders known for using heavy duty torque converters etc.diesel power magazine usually has ads in the back of their magazine.some of these guys have 150000 mile guarantees.

Thanks for all the quick replies....

And Neil, I guess it's more of a fork than a crossword.
