Hi Everyone!

Tow vehicle: great deal from a friend: F150 *shell* with a Lincoln V-8 engine.

The tow vehicle needs tires, any suggestions for a single girl on a (temporarily tight) budget? I won't be towing many miles this winter, prolly under 1,000.

Go to tirerack.com or discounttire.com and you can put in your truck by year and model. See what they recommend. Check to see if the size matches what is on your truck now - the friend may have put different size wheels on. That will give you an idea of prices and suitable tires. You can order on line and have a local shop mount them, or maybe you can find a deal locally. These websites will give you info on load ratings, so you know what to look for if you shop around. I've had good luck buying from tires-easy.com so check them out too!

I should have mentioned my concern was that I may need extra heavy duty or specialty rear tires for towing an AS?

The stork delivered my baby a month ago and I have yet to tow her myself...

The good news is, thanks to a Vintage Airstream I'm getting my black belt in "man stuff"!

I have put Michelin tires on all my vehicles both truck and car for over 40 years and have an immediate improvement in ride and handling from the usual low end OEM installed tires. We have not had a Michelin tire failure, but have had several flats due to nails and screws in the road.

Depending on one's right foot power applicator, it is entirely possible to get the advertised mileage out of the tires. Hot rod starts and stops kill tire service life dramatically.

You do want fairly stiff tires that carry some pressure for towing. I would think some type of LT tire in a load range C or D would do the job. Maybe a talk to a local tire man would be in order. You do not really want oversized tires either. What year 150? What size wheels? What does the sticker on the truck say about tire size? What is the rear end ratio? Are you going to keep it a long time?
