Where to look for TV?

I want to buy an Avalanche 8.1 2500, but have been too late on two today.

There are not many available in the places I am looking.

What web site, other than cars.com has trucks for sale?

We want to buy an Avalanche and sell our Surburban. It is an 8.1 2500 LT that we really like, but want to put 2 Honda generators in the back, so need an Avalanche.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pat

Silvertwinkie has a Suburban and doesn't want to carry gas in the passenger compartment either. He purchased an LP converted Yamaha IIRC. Many have converted their Hondas also. And you don't have to carry a gas can! Camping World has all the adapters to run these off your trailer's LP tanks.

Hi Pat,

If you are buying new.
Go to Automobiles by Chevrolet: Chevy cars, Trucks, SUVs and more , then "Build and Price" an Avalance, then use the "Find a Vehicle" feature.

Happy Hunting.

Go to Welcome to GM Vehicle Showroom if looking for Chevy vehicles. I found two almost identical 2500hd pickups within 25 miles of my house and purchased one within two weeks of finding it in dealer stock on that site.

If yer gonna do it, do it fast, the 8.1L in the Avelanche is no more.

Bob is right, if yer doin it cause the generators, an LP conversion would do the trick. No smell, fumes or otherwise in the cabin. Thow it in the way back and forgetaboutit.

Pat, try the dealers in the Tampa area, they will have a larger selection, and usually better prices, than the dealers in the area you are (volume leads price).

I found my Quadrasteer Suburban 2500 (very rare model) through Kelly Blue Book at New Car Prices | Used Car Values - Official Kelley Blue Book Site. Their software allows you to limit your search with key words like 8.1 and/or 2500.

You might consider keeping the Sub and converting two Honda EU2000i's to LP. No gas odor and you are already carrying a bunch of LP on board. That is my plan for the very near future.

LP genset conversion?

Pick has a couple threads on the conversion:
http://www.airforums.com/forum...000i-3578.html
http://www.airforums.com/forum...00i-16113.html

Pick runs an LP eu2000i and an OEM gasoline powered eu2000i:
http://www.airforums.com/forum...0is-23976.html
And: http://www.airforums.com/forum...draw-5244.html

I'm sure you'll be analyzing a lot of this in considering the cost of a new tow vehicle. There aren't many alternatives to needing the A/C in Florida. And a single genset to run the A/C is just too darned heavy to lift in and out of a TV. No easy answers...

Hi, The key word here is want. When makeing such decissions you need to consider two words: Want & Need. Do you really need to change vehicles to accommodate portable generators? Or do you want to change vehicles to haul portable generators? I would keep your Suburban and find another way to handle the generator delima.

I have to buy used, because, as someone said, they are not making the 8.1 2500 Avalanche right now.

We bought our Suburban in St. Pete-found it on the internet. Will look in the papers around Tampa. Good idea.

The Suburban would have to be open to allow the exhaust to escape, wouldn't it? Sorry if that is a "no brainer, stupid question". I really do think that I know the answer.

As far as wanting or needing, probably a little of both. My husband would prefer a mh, so I am trying to make this tt something he is happy with and I can handle by myself. He can do it, but should not because of his health, and isn't comfortable watching me do it, so I am trying to figure out the absolute easiest way of doing it all. We did use a generator often in the mhs we have had, so would like to have one or two.

Thanks all!

Pat

Hi, Yes I guess, I miss-understood you. I would think you would use the tow vehicle to carry the generators, not run them inside. The reason for two generators is usually so it is easier/lighter to load and unload them. I myself have thought of removeing my spare tire and mounting a 4.0 generator under my tow vehicle; This is something you could also do with the Suburban.

A new to me Avalanche 8.1!

I did find exactly what I think I want: an Avalanche 2500 8,1 3.73 silver loaded with 21,000 miles.

It was on a couple of internet sites. It is at a Chevrolet-Buick dealer in CT.
It had been a leased truck for 18 months in FL, then sold at auction in FL to the Chevy dealer, taken to CT and now is on the way back to FL.

Will keep my fingers crossed, but do feel pretty good about it. Just hope those feelings are right!

Thanks for all the suggestions on where to shop.

Pat

One more, Autotrader.com I too at one point was looking at the 3/4 ton Avalanche (last year made 2006). I found a pretty good assortment of colors and equipment. Good luck in your search.
