I have always loved the Alfa Spyder! However, I heeded the warning of our chief UK petrol-head motoring Journalist, Jeremy Clarkson. He said he loved it, but he was always carrying a bit of it in his hands! Lol! Hence, I have the one bit of madness in the Swedish stable of sensible cars: Saab 900 Turbo convertible! Monster!!
I return the thread to the hitchers! Thank you!

Young & Stoopid...
back in the '70s I towed a 16' Hobie Cat sailboat with a 1973 VW Super Beetle Conv. from Santa Cruz to Mazatlan Mexico and back.

Does this qualify?
Still under development, the Mercedes Sprinter will CARRY the Mini Cooper while PULLING the re-done 1976 Argosy 24.
The Argosy will be painted two-tone, Pepper White and Black, to match the MINI.
The whole story is here, for those interested:

Towing
As you can see in my Avatar I tow a 25'SS with my Touareg.Funny thing is that in travel life I think it was they were pulling a 28' with a Touareg just like the Porche Cayenne in the Can-Am site. What is funnier is that the Porche Cayenne platform is the Volkswagen platform in that vehicle. It pulls the same weight does the same thing but just has a bigger engine and the all wheel drive is set to 60/40 unlike our VW which is set to 50/50 on the all wheel drive. It does the same thing in offroad conditions also. The hitch is also the same kind.I even have Cayenne roof rails on my Touareg.

RedSHED:
Thanks.
One of the things that made the Airstream ARGOSY special was that they were always PAINTED.

Sergei,
It may be bizarre to some, but your rig is certainly up to it's task!!

My parents used to tow a 16' standard travel trailer with a Volkswagen bus...
They then traded the bus for a Pinto, and I told my dad if he tried towing the trailer with that, I would have him committed. He was not amused, but didn't try to.

Terry, good story. Maybe your dad would have had a better chance with the Pinto I built up many years ago. 300HP V8, 9" Ford rear end, HD suspension, 15"wheels and tires and more.

I think he would have had more success with that one, although his Pinto had the "big engine"...the higher horsepower 2.0 engine.

Should probably not admit this...
In December, I needed to get our 34' Excella to and from Eugene (about 100 miles) to have the solar system installed, so I did it with our '90 half-ton 'Burb with the 350. It does fine with our Globetrotter, but it's got a stoopid rear end, I think a 3:23, and is sooo overmatched with the Excella. I got 'er done, but very slowly and VERY carefully. I put a yellow > Slow Vehicle < sign on back. I know better and did it anyway.
Now, as a reckless youth in the 60's, I was half of a two van convoy on its way to California from Indiana. A buddy of mine had a Ford 150 tradesman and I had a VW micro bus. Somewhere in Texas on Route 66, the VW melted an aluminum piston, as they're wont to do when you run the pedal to the metal (58 mph) ten to fourteen hours a day. Solution: tie the front bumper of the VW to the rear bumper of the Ford with a pair of jeans. Pilot the VW by looking through the rear windows and front windshield of the Ford, gently steering and brakeing by anticipating the moves of the front driver. Through the mountains. At night.
Seemed like a logical solution to a problem then, but makes my skin crawl when I think of it now.

In the employ of Uncle Sugar's stormtroopers some decades back: My regular run was in convoy over Snoqualmie Pass, WA, driving an M-818 wrecker.
One winter, several of the trucks were going down with frozen brake lines. I stopped to pick-up a bob-tail tractor, then a little farther on had to pick-up a tractor-trailer with a tank on the back. I hooked the bob-tail to the trailer with a towbar, lifted the other tractor on the hook, and set out. Right at the summit, snowing like a barstid, my brakes went away. Hooked-up airlines to the brakes on the trailer, and got down like that. With all that load, I had to ease-into the throttle on the wrecker to keep the front wheels somewhat in contact with ma earth.
My Dear Ex tows a 2,000 lb trailer with no brakes all over the country with her Miata -- probably exceeding the speed limit most of the time.
Most impressive overkill I've yet seen was a full-size Freightliner converted to a stake-bed pickup, with just a shiny Harley aboard.
