Thanks for the additional insights guys. I was 10 miles from Mocksville two hours ago, checking out RV park on 64. We have been to Lake Myers many times, mostly when I was a kid living in Winston Salem where my dad was in college at Wake Forest. Trying to find some places to take an RV in NC, and the Smokies.

We were very impressed with the FC 27' today at the dealer. Decent room for our family, although I still think we would prefer twin beds. The one we saw had a queen. But very nice setup.

Sounds like a Suburban 2500 would be nice if I can find one. Still early in that search, but will keep this in mind. In either case, if we stay at 27', sounds like a Suburban should do fine.

Regarding why I want 4x4, we use it for reasons other than the RV. We go to Outer Banks, Cape Lookout, where we can drive on beach. Also lots of off roading closer to home kayaking, camping, and fishing. And some make shift slippery boat Ramps in NC and Tenn where we take our white water raft fly fishing.

With kids, dog, etc, we are quite fond of Chevy SUV's. Owned two Tahoes and an Escalade. The Suburban is a good fit for us. Thanks for the insights. All are very appreciated.

Hope this helps. We have a '99 K1500 extended body, top of the line trim, gasoline V-8 GMC Suburban with factory installed tow package and 158,000 miles. (Generic names, I know, but I do not remember the specific GMC names, sorry.) Pull a '76 24' Argosy. Couple of summers ago we were travelling from Minneapolis to Rapid City. Had me, wife, daughter, and two pre teen grandsons in the vehicle. Full water tanks, luggage for all for a couple of weeks, full refrigerator, full cabinet of food, etc. plus other camping gear. Daughter was driving across South Dakota on a day when the temperature was well over 100 degrees, air conditioner fully working, TV is very cool, kids using all electric toys, and I noticed that her speed was about 85 mph, with the RPM on the tach about 2,000. Could not notice any straining on the vehicle engine. We went on to Colorado and through the Eisenhower tunnel on I 70, at about 10,000 feet elevation. Same loading, top speed was about 45 mph going uphill in the mountains west of Denver, passing most semi trucks. Took same load up smaller winding Colorado roads at about same altitude and could easily maintain 45 mph. On Interstate Highway around Denver (Mile High, remember), we always flowed with the traffic easily at 60 to 80 miles per hour. For what it's worth. When trailer was in campground, could use the GMC and go 4 wheel driveing off road way back in mountain boondocks. With 158,000 miles on tow vehicle am now spending about $3,000 for new tires, tie rods, and ball joints expecting it to go many more miles. Work truck is K2500 Chevy ('97) with basically same package and 285,000 miles on it and still answering the bell every day - even in 20 degree below zero weather. For what it's worth. Enjoy.
