What do you use to tow your 22' Safari?

Just a little future planning on replacing my '99 Tahoe someday. Would love your opinions and curious about your current tow vehicles.

Less than 3500 pounds and a 377# tongue weight, I would think you could pick just about any vehicle you want.

Yep, I'd pull a 22 Sport with a TDI Jetta! In fact that's one option I'm considering when I retire.

We pull our 66 Safari with a naturally aspirated 2012 Flex AWL. Great ride lots of extra room and no pulling/braking issues

The flex is a vehicle I'm really curious about. Do you find the ride very car-like or is it more like an SUV or van?

We test drove it before getting the Honda Odyssey instead. With, at the time, three kids under the age of three we needed the extra space the bigger van offered.

I really liked the Flex. We moved up from a Mercedes B-Class which despite its small size has an elevated driving position. The Flex offered the same, with a car-like drive.

2006 Honda Ridgeline purchased new April 2005. Has over 100,000 miles on it about a third of that towing. Absolutely no regrets. Planning on putting another 100k.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab--5.2 liter V8. Does a very good job. Truck was part of the family before we bought the trailer.

It is different and kinda Funky. Although our TV is the car we have a 16 year old Nissan Van as a 2nd vehicle for getting groceries etc.
It is getting long on the tooth and needs to be upgraded. A 3 or 4 for year old Flex is one vehicle we are looking at. It could also be used as a TV for our 23' if we ever choose to retire the 11 year old car.

Another funky vehicle (similar in appearance to the Flex) we are looking at is the Scion Xb that my BH could use as a grocery getter.

We used a couple of Eureka's too back in the day. We stopped tent camping after a Moose walked past the tent one night up in Algonqin PP. Thought we were going to be walked on. EEEEk!

The Scion isn't as well made as the Flex, IMO - not even close. We fitted out a Scion as a promotional vehicle two years back and I thought it was very plasticky whereas the Flex felt extremely solid and well built.

Nothing wrong with the Flex...except for the puny 18 Gal fuel tank. When towing you'll be stopping for gas, a lot! That's one reason we chose a Traverse.

I like the 18 gal.tank, it's time for a stretch after 5 hrs of driving anyway.

5 hours? You'll be stopping for gas much more frequently than that, and learn to carry an extra gas can.

Let's see.. last trip 18 gal. @13 mpg =244 miles. 55 mph is about 5 hrs. No need for extra gas either.

Flex gas tank is 18.6 US gals (exact) @ 13 MPG = 4:24 hr @55 MPH at which point you'll be burning fumes. Most would be stopping every 3 hours for gas, especially in unknown territory or in the boonies. Definitely not convenient.

What ever boss , we like it, we're happy about it, no issues. We're not interested in what everyone else will do or how often they stop. Then again more stops mean more chances to view this great land and it's people.
