Well we started out with a 19' Bambi and our 1990 Toyota Landcruiser diesel imported from Japan. It was fine pulling the Bambi but then we upgraded to a 27FBSE.
Well we took the trailer for a test run and it was fine too. Went on a 1000km trip and it was still fine but the truck was running hot and best I could figure it was running about 95% capacity.
Well I went out to look at a nice "cheap" 2003 Dodge Ram diesel with 6 speed, made the "mistake" of telling the wife about the 2004 crewcab GMC with heated leather seats.
Long story short ended up buying the GMC.
So this past weekend we were out and what a difference towing. Piece of cake now. No stress, no drama, no watching gauges and adjusting speed and gears. Just put her in tow/haul mode and go. Best part is now I don't have to look at the goofy McKesh mirrors, they were fine but I hated putting them on and then removing them all the time.
So for me, best setup is, 2004 GMC 2500HD D-Max with Allison tranny, Hensley Arrow hitch and 2007FBSE.
No, a mistake is what I did. I bought a 2003 Tahoe without the heated leather seats. My wife turned up her nose and has refused to ride in it.
Either she changes her mind, or I need a $700 leather kit for the front seats.
Oh, man... what WERE you thinking? A foolish and misguided "guy" decision no doubt. Geez!
Go get the heated leather kit and be done with it. It's ONLY 700 bucks... isn't that reasonable enough to get out of Purgatory? Remember... If Momma's not happy, no one's happy!

Mark---How long does "heated leather seats" season last up there in Minnesota? We're in the middle of "cooled leather seats" season here in So Cal. I'd hate to guess what it costs to retrofit "cool". Better stay in Minnesota and spend the $700. Does $700 buy both seats or just hers?
GOWYN, How are you doing with your GM 2500? Still happy with it? Any issues? I'm in the market for a 2500 diesel and right now we are leaning toward the Chevy. Would you do it over again?

Yeah, there's nothing like the voice of experience.
It's one of those things, until you've tried both you just don't understand how dramatic the difference towing is with a 3/4 ton.
Isn't that Allison amazing?

I know the feeling. That's what I've been trying to tell those looking for a TV that can do the job and not worry about looking at gauges, and stressing out! Oh, and when summer comes, you'll be able to turn on your AC.

I had a brand new 1982 FJ-40. Great off roader but coudn't tow very much of anything. My last three suburbans have had the heated seats. I have inadvertanrly turned mine on several times over the years. Each time I found myself wondering how come my but was on fire.

sorry for the delay in answering, we're on the road in Rohobeth Beach DE after driving through PA the last few days.
Truck is doing great. YES I WOULD do it over again. Only having one slight problem and that's she's starting to slow down on the hills, don't know if that is an unrealistic expectation but hey. Pretty sure it's the fuel filter so I'll change it before we head back to London. In my own defense, it was REALLY hilly and VERY windy when we went through the Allegany(sp)
Other than that truck is great. Lot's of room, enough power. Mine has the annoying steering shaft (unfixable apparently but not a safety issue) rattle, hardly noticeable really.
Stopped by a CAT scale and weighed in, around 4500# on the front, #4700 on the rear and 6600# on the trailer axles.
Again I have the Hensly Arrow hitch, very nice and easy to hook up (I also use hitchin Rods cats meow.)
I'll update when I get home.
