20" tires for 2010 Expedition
I need to replace the worn, passenger tires my 4wd Expedition.
On my Yukon, I ran Bridgestone Dueler Revo's, and was very pleased. Well, except that my poor parallel parking skills slightly ruined the raised white lettering....
Now I can't find any E rated tires for my newer truck. Looks like the Geolander A/T's are XL passenger tires - and the BFG All Terrain T/A K02's are D-rated.... Maybe either is "enough"?
My main focus is getting a tire for towing my 5700lb '73 Overlander - rapidly followed by a tire that handles well in rain (I had a bad hydroplaning experience that traumatized me several years ago).
Any suggestions? I've been browsing here and chatting with TireRack but getting nowhere. Thought about changing to 18" wheels for about 16 seconds - I really don't have the $$$ for it. Picked up this truck about 6mo ago and have already sunk $2K in repairs - with another $2K planned (belt, plugs & exhaust leak at rusted mainfold). But it got me across the country. I won't be surprised if I need brakes too. Mother trucker....

Goodyear makes a shorter one in the Wrangler SR-A, 265/60 I believe it is. It's used on the GM 3/4 ton trucks with 20" wheels. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Have you looked at the Cooper Discoverer? I have a set of 275/65/20's on my Tundra, not sure if they're available in your size.

Hmm
If it were me, I would be scouring E-Bay and CL for some 18" rims. I am sure you have a local used auto parts place where you could find 4 of them. If you showed up at the used auto parts place on a Friday jus' b4 closing time with an ice cold 12 pack of Budweisers in your hand, you'd find a friend willing to make a deal.
The PO of my truck spent some big bucks and got aftermarket tires & rims as he wanted 18" Michelins with an E rating. The truck came with 20's. There simply isn't enough manufacturers out there these days that produce E rated 20" tires.
20's are behemoths. That's ALOT of rubber, and man do you need deep pockets to replace them. If you plan on keeping this truck for awhile...IMHO, it would be worth it to drop down to the 18's. Keep the 20" rims to sell or trade.
Look at how many more manufacturer choices you have when you are looking at 18's. It is significant.
Good luck hunting.

This is good information. I would love to have load range E 20's on my Tundra.
I have been fine on p-rated 20's for 5 years, but I think load range E LT 20's would be better.

I just had to put new 20" tires on my 2011 GMC 2500HD. I went with the Nitto Grappler G2 tires. They have the E load rating.

Hey Laura, long time since we met at the Canopener. Anyway, I have a 2012 Ford F250 with 20" tires that are E rated. They are Michelin LTX A/T LT275/65R20 Load Range E. F250s come with either 20 or 18 inch tires. Russ

It's been too long... I want to go home - and join in the Canopener in 2016! I'm looking at the Michelins - they're high on the $$$ but still cheaper than new rims and tires.
But, I have found a good selection of used 18" Ford F-150 wheels on craigslist. They are a bit different than sizing on the Expedition 18" OEMs.
Expedition 18" OEM wheel size 8.5Jx18 ET35
F-150 18 wheel size: 7.5Jx18 ET44
Anyone know if the difference in wheel width & offset will cause any problems?

Prior to purchasing my 2013 Expedition, I contacted Andy Thompson at CanAm RV and he recommeded going with the larger 20" tires rather than the 18" that I had run on my previous 2008 Expedition. That was good enough for me but I like both the look and the handling of the larger tire as well. I'd spend the money on the tires, not downsizing to 18" tires AND rims.

On our '11 and '14 F150's we ended up swapping out the stock 20" Pirelli tire for a set of 285/55 20 Cooper Discoverer A/T3's, and have been very happy with the change.

Maybe the solution is to buy a TV that has the load and towing capacity to haul the TT you want to tow and you need togo the "bling" of the large diameter wheels.
Larger wheels with lower aspect ratio will lower the actual lad capacity. I do hope that if you are considering changing tire size you are using load capacity as a controlling dnumber and not just the rim diameter.

Ummm, pretty sure the TV capacity (with HD tow package) is well enough equipped at 15,000 GCWR and 8,900 max trailer weight to handle my trailer! And thank gawd it came with the BLING wheels - cause that really is my focus.
I'm talking improving my tires!

Found this great comparison tool. Looks like the 18" wheels I keep finding might interfere with the brake pads...
Posting this anyway because the tool is cool.

Ok so I must be missing something. You have a HD towing package and the numbers indicate you have the capacity needed as I understand it. So why do you want or feel the need to go from LR-D to LR-E?
All that LR-E gives you is an increase in load capacity when you increase the tire inflation from 65 to 80 psi.
