Nearly every convertible made has a different frame to add support to the vehicle for lost support for the lack of a solid upper body.

And guys looking to go faster many times will add support to their rides to keep them together. The engine brace support in many Mustangs is an example of added support. There are kits for that one.

Flat braces running in a diagonal manner may serve that Buick.

The Lincoln is back from the body shop

I picked up the Lincoln this morning after a repaint. What do you think?

The paint job looks great! Is the color a light green metallic? The color reminds me of the color on my favorite station wagon . . . a 1971 Buick Sprotwagon . . . Buick's name for the color was Fern Green Metallic. The closest I have been able to get with the last two cars that I ordered was the Gecko Green Metallic that was on my 2007 Volkswage New Beetle Convertible.

Kevin,

The original color was Jade, a metallic. This is a pearl, but looks identical and looks great, next step is to replace the emerald vinyl roof.

We currently plan on being in Huron, hope to see you there.

Bill

Looking very good Bill. My '57 is IIRC '76 Lincoln colors, light and dark jade metallic. Somewhat partial to the look.

The new roof just tops it up nicely.

Merry Christmas.

1951 Ford Deluxe

I am making sure a 1951 Ford Deluxe Fordor with a V-8 engine, that is rebuilt, will pull a 1955 18 ft camper.
Do I need to install heavier springs in back? I cannot seem to find anyone mentioning having to fortify the springs.
Thank you.

Not cut and dry answer for this one IMHO. Will depend on a couple of items,
1. Have the springs ever been replaced?
2. Do you plan to use a WD Hitch?

I've pulled with a 1962 Galaxie and a 1968 Travelall, each one needed different things to make them right.

Enjoy,

I had a sobering experience last week, which made me re-think my vintage car, which I use regularly. I was driving our Honda sports car on a local 45mph two lane highway, when an elderly driver pulled right out in front of me- witnessed by a park ranger and others. I pushed so hard on the brake I sprained my foot, broadsided her and totalled my car. Thankfully for our airbags, shoulder belts and a stiff structure, I'm still here. If I were in my Dart convertible, I'd probably be dead. People here in town were commenting that seeing the accident made them drive more carefully... and my point to this is, be careful and expect the unexpected, particularly important driving a vintage car and towing. I typically watch for deer to run out, and have missed many (fog lights help to light the side of the roadway) and thought I was pretty vigilant.
Sorry for your ordeal

What I’ve taken away from similar stories and many near-misses for me is, driving more carefully on your or my parts won’t prevent this kind of accident.

I have a ‘73 truck, so you’d think I’d be safer, but the semi-truck drivers here in So Cal have gotten really aggressive lately.

Stay home or go out?
