Vintage Tow Vehicle - 1960 F100 panel

Our choice for our 59 Ambassador (Hindenburger) is a 1960 Ford F100 panel. It has a 302 coupled up to a C-4 tranny. It has the front clip from an Aerostar (R&P & front disk brakes). The 302 & C-4 are at the razor's edge of guts to tow the 59 (flat land) and we intend to beef up the cooling capacity of the motor and tranny. We will only be doing short hauls (less than 50 miles a day) with the Hindenburg so we are confident that it will get the job done...with style. The stock rear end is geared low anyway so we will just leave earlier and cruise slow. We will set her up for towing with all the latest technology and safety equipment using the advice of fellow AS owners on this site. For all of you out there that selflessly contribute your advice and contributions to the site to assist folks like us....we are grateful.

Neat set up. When you can, post a pic of the trailer and truck together. I'm sure it will look outstanding.

We tow a lot with a vintage TV, as do many of our friends, and it is fun. We used to only use the wagon but now from time to time we just find it easier to hook up the truck, for those ugly trips where you wouldn't want to take the car, but for the most part we enjoy taking the wagon when ever we can.

As for travel taking longer, we came to the conclusion years ago that it isn't a race to get somewhere, if the distance means a fast dash then we just go somewhere closer rather than hurt ourselves, the trailer, the TV, or someone else. We enjoy the side roads and two lanes and when towing with vintage you will find that people along those roads really seem to appreciate seeing you come along and pass by.

Enjoy your new ride
