Vintage 80"s

We are looking at pairing our 1980 31ft Excella with a 1983 Ford F100 V8. Would mostly be short trips. Anyone have experience or advice on towing with the F100?

What engine/transmission/axle ratio does the F100 have? A minimum would be a 351 (5.8) engine, as the smaller V8 and 6 cylinder engines would tend to be the oversmogged/underpowered units of the time. I had a 1980 400 with 115hp, not so good for towing.

It may or may not work so good. Depends on engine, gear ratio, spring and tire ratings. A 351 with a 3.73 axle or a 460 with a 3.55 would work as a place to start. You would want a 4.10 if you had a 302 and don't even think about a 6 cylinder. Your mileage may vary, but not going to be good with a 460!
