Okay, okay. For all of you who have said that the Durango has insufficient horsepower and torque to tow our 25-foot Airstream, I must reluctantly admit that you were right. Mea culpa, mea culpa.
The mountains of the West were no real challenge for the Durango, but the East proved to be surprisingly difficult. The grades are greater, far greater.
Soooo, to solve the TV dilemma, we have upgraded from the Durango to a 2007 Porsche Turbo.
With 480 horsepower and 455 foot-pounds of torque we should now have more than enough power now. And, if the grade gets especially steep, we have an extra 50 foot-pounds with the optional overboost!! That gives us a whopping 505 foot-pounds of torque.
Top speed without the Airstream in tow is over 190 mph, but we have yet to test the limit while towing. Perhaps when we get back West we'll open it up.
