I have a 2013 RAM
1500 with the 5.7 hemi and 3.55 rear gear ratio. I have towed my 25' and 27' AS over 5,000 miles with it. It has performed well and I've had zero problems with towing.
However, as many of you are aware, the payload on the RAM
1500 is very limited (and as a newb I didn't know about payload when I ordered this truck).
So I am considering a new TV. I've pretty much decided against a 3/4 ton. And, while I like diesel, gas is a better choice for me. And I'm somewhat partial to the RAM although not married to the idea.
I've looked at the 2019 RAM
1500 and it is really, really nice, especially the interior. And they have made changes to significantly increase payload. But to get to the max payload and towing you have to order it with a 3.92 rear gear ratio. The only other choice is 3.21.
So here is my question. Assuming the same engine and transmission what can I expect when towing if going from a 3.55 rear in my current truck to a 3.92 rear in the new truck?
Thanks!
