Talking TV advice

I will be purchasing a late model FC 25'. Considering purchasing ram 1500
eco-diesel short bed as TV. Also considering Jeep Grand Cherokee
diesel. Can-Am does not like the jeep.
I am open to all suggestions. Would like to stick with diesel. this will be
my first TT. Newbie

While I have neither (Ecodiesel or 25 FC) that really sounds like a nice combination to me.

Why don't they like the jeep?

Personally I would get the truck to tow that.

Maybe in your best interest to contact Andrew at Can-Am and ask for a list of vehicles he would recommend to tow what you wish to tow. I would only ask him for maybe the top five choices.

Why diesel? The modern diesel is very complex, expensive to maintain compared to gas, more expensive fuel costs in some areas and times of year, more expensive to purchase.

Cheers
Tony

I own a 2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel and use it to tow a 1991 AS excella 25ft. It is an excellent combo if set up right. Preferably get one with 3:92 gears and factory air ride. The stock Goodyear Sra tires are garbage but they well work until you can upgrade them.

Don't let one dealers opinion sway you away from what you want. Do more research into others towing with the jeep, make up your mind then.

I think CanAm likes the Dodge Durango, which is not available in diesel. The difference in the Jeep GC and Durango is the overhang from the rear axel.

Regardless, I tow a 25' with my Durango and am very happy with it. We just got back from another 8,000 mile, two month trip to Montana, Wyoming and British Columbia.

You will be happy with the ecodiesel towing a 25ft Airstream. I know as I have both.

^^^ If I didn't like our FC 27FB so much that is the route I'd go too. I love Ram trucks and that Ecodiesel is really tempting (due to fuel economy).

If you wouldn't mind sharing , how is your ram configured. Anything you can add will be helpful to me.Too many options add weght and cut down on max payload. that is my major concern with the ram 1500 diesel

I have the ML350 Bluetec diesel with airride to tow my 25'. Lots of torque. Can Am did the hitch reinforcement and WD hitch set up. Tows beautifully no issues.

I have a 2016 RAM Limited 4x4 with the Ecodiesel, max payload is 1050 in my configuration. I love the truck but it's no sufficient for towing our 28' International.

The tongue weight of a loaded 25' FC is going to be around 1000 not leaving much room for payload. Worth noting the front bedroom Airstreams have lower tongue weights, maybe something to think about.

We are upgrading to an F-250 as a result of our experience with the Ecodiesel.

All that being said if you go with a RAM 1500 I would get the hemi which will give you more payload capacity.

I am looking at 4x2, 8110 lb towing, 1540 lb payload, Trailer weighs in at 5503 lb, GVWR 7300 lb hitch weight 837 lb diesel

We are on another cross-country trip with our FC25 and Ram EcoDiesel right now, hard to imagine a nicer overall towing combination, rock solid on the road in all weather, road and traffic conditions and remarkable economy, a nice handling and comfortable daily driver as well. This is our second Ram 1500, last one a Hemi. That was a good truck as well for this purpose.

RAM is a better choice because you will get a better payload. Towing a AS25 or any larger AS will drive you at the limit of the payload capacity of a Jeep if you load it with more than two people.

Milo you will be gold with that setup but set up right the diesel jeep should be also as others have done this with good results. I would want the LS differential with a 2WD. fwiw many grades out west require tire chains on 2WD when the flashers are on due to road conditions at the higher altitudes.

My 3.92 gear Big Horn QC 6.4 bed 4WD is rated to tow 8,800. Its GVWR is 6,950 as delivered weighed 5,501 so say 1,450 payload. But I've been on state scales near the 7,800 combined axle weight and the truck would climb decend handle & stop well. In fact safely useing tune with brake, no sway WDH, & axle to frame airbags well & better tires. For safety I do watch to not exceed individual axle & CVWR.

It sure is an efficient engine. Three years running now a Wards top ten engine award winner. Have over 233k on mine now well over half of which with a trailer in tow. Repairs a light switch at $104 & a lift pump at $158. Happy streamin
