probably covered before, the old dilemma of double cab v crewmax & 2wd v 4wd ..
leaning to the crewmax, I'm 6' and would not appreciate being a rear seat passenger in the double for a long road trip .. my kids are growing v tall !

while I'd rarely use 4wd, seems very handy for the small handful of times I'd need. I also like to offgrid camp in my popup at Tahoe, so that's a done deal.

but more seriously .. i've found a nice used 2008 with a couple of potential negatives ...
aftermarket noisy exhaust ... not good yeah?
new shocks with a slight raise, looks about an extra 2" or so..
off-road tires, noisy & poor fuel economy ?

otherwise looks good, 2 owners, full service records .. carfax checks out, original paint.., no accidents i can tell. Anything to be cautious about with on the 2008's ? 113,000 5.7ltr.

Not sure if this is on the one you are considering. But I have a 4 door crew cab 5.7 2014 Tundra. And my #1 favorite thing on it? That the entire back window rolls down completely.

That is just so nice when highway driving and you want that windows open feeling, but don't want air blowing in your face/hair.

It also makes hitching/unhitching just a bit easier. Driver can see/hear the assistant better.

4x4 although rarely used can be a savior. A few years back after checking in at the CG I was on my to the assigned site, little did I know it was up a gravel road, a hill, a test for my truck. As I started the incline pulling a 36 ft trailer my tires started to spin spitting up gravel at the front of the trailer. I stopped & put the truck in4x4 mode & up the hill I went with ease. As the saying goes, better to have & not need than need & not have.

Does the '08 have the tow package?
4WD will reduce the payload rating.
Crew cab has less payload capacity.
I have an '08 double cab 2WD. It has been a great truck. I bought it used with 9K miles, it now has 40K miles and is still going strong with more than 20K miles of towing.

We have a 2008 DC SR5 that we bought used. Other than some early transmission issues (fixed under warranty) it has been a great truck. The only towing issue I have is that the payload for these trucks is relatively low. Our door sticker reads 1390# for the payload. After adding the tongue weight and WD hitch, we are over 1000# before extra stuff and people are added on. Not sure what the Crewmax payload stats are, I suspect it might be even lower.

I full time with AT's and they're fine. If they're MT's then yea, that would be pretty terrible on the pavement.

I'm a fan of my long tube headers and magnaflow exhaust, but I am from the south. 2 years and I'm still happy.

I have a 2008 DC SR5 that I purchased new. I chose to go with the double cab because I didn't want to give up the space in the bed.

I would also be concerned about the loud aftermarket exhaust. Makes you think about the guy who has been driving it.

I really like my Tundra but 2008 had its problems. Mine developed the front end growl that took a long time for Toyota to fix but fix they did. Then, just recently, mine has developed piston slap which sounds terrible but does not affect the performance of the engine or the life expectancy. I don't like the sound but with only 70K miles in I doubt I will be trading it in soon.

My son in law has a newer Tundra, like a 2010 I think and they made some nice improvements. His back up camera is much better. Mine flips down from the ceiling and is small. His is in the dash and shows up in the mirror, is larger and much clearer.

If you can find a 2010 or newer I think you would be happier.

Can't answer some of your questions but can say that we have a 2014 CrewMax 4x4 Tundra 5.7 liter with tow package and like it a lot but....payload is around 1400lbs and fuel economy is low. A reasonably loaded 25' FC with three people in the truck...the payload available is now zero. Add any gear in the truck bed and you're over payload.

What is the trailer's tongue weight you will be pulling?

I don't care for the loss of bed length with the crew max vs the double. I wouldn't consider a pickup without 4wd.

looks like payload for crewmax 4x4 is 1360 with max towing weight 10,000lbs

so could be kinda close, we're a light weight family, about 500-550lbs
+ gear another 200lbs maybe ..+ trailer 500 ... that's very close, wow .. would that be considered dangerous ?

Stay away from pickups with lift kits installed. The exhaust, lift kit, big tires. Yuck! You'll get terrible mileage and won't be good for towing. Keep looking.

I had a 2010 2x4 Double Cab SR5 Tundra. It had 1465lbs shown on the door jamb sticker. Crew Cab with 4x4 will have less. My 25fb has a 1100b tongue weight, your AS is probably less. With just the two of us, and some stuff under the tonneau cover we were probably exceeding payload.

Sorry for my delayed response.

The tongue weight of your trailer is much less than my trailer which is fabulous! Our 2015 25FB Flying Cloud, when loaded, has a tongue weight of 1050 lbs.

You've got the payload equation complete if you add trailer tongue weight to it all. I am guessing that you meant "trailer tongue weight" when you wrote "hitch weight" but you need to have both in the equation. "Trailer tongue weight" is the weight of the trailer resting on the hitch. "Hitch weight" is the weight of the actual hitch attached to your truck.

Make sense?
