Truck towing ability

Hi All! We have a 2007 chevy silverado 1/2 ton. Presently own a 2007 20' airstream. We are looking to upgrade to a 23' fb or a 25' fb. What is the largest AS we can pull without blowing up our truck? Thanks for your insight!

I'd think that your chevy 1500 should be able to tow a 23 footer, and probably a 25 footer too. I believe those are rated at about 8200 lb towing, but i don't know what a 23-25 footer actually weighs. my old 31 footer maxes @ 7200, but i've not scaled it loaded.

We pulled our 27' international with a half ton Chevy (z71 with transmission cooling system) for about a year with no trouble. It would have worked fine but after several trips to the mountains and decided we wanted a heavier more powerful TV and traded up to a 3/4 chevy.

a better answer would come if you posted the engine size and the rear end gear ratio. you might find the exact answer on the drivers door post or glove box door.

Well, for a Chevy you'll find a bunch of codes in the glove box and will have to decode them. I don't know any of the GM rear axle codes off the top of my head, but decoding lists are definitely out there on the internet.

We tow our dear Lucy who is a 25FB weighing 7400# with a 3/4 ton Suburban. At one time we towed her with our 2004 Tahoe (5.3 liter V-8/3.73 rear). It did OK, but not great. Your half ton Chevy pick-up should do as well. The 23FB should be fine. The 25FB will work, but may be lacking on tough upgrades.
