Transmission Breaking Points

While most all of us that tow an AS do not go to the lengths that some diesel owners go to make rediculous HP, it was still interesting to see what towing limits with HP and TQ would break a stock tranny. Guess who won??

The have a strangely-worded page on the topic. I guess they're saying the Allison slips at 568 hp and some unspecified amount of torque, and the 6-speed TorqShift doesn't give up until 884 hp/1600 lb-ft (at least when managed by their tuner.)

Does their tuner not do anything for the Allison? Or did they just not include that info on the page?

I'd say you're unlikely to break either transmission towing an Airstream, unless it's an Airstream motorhome with the parking brakes on.

The tuner would have no effect on the breaking point of the tranny; it's a function of the internal parts and the torque converter strength.

Wow... That was a serious down payment on a house or AS!... At least the mechanic will get a good payday I hope.

I have "thrashed " one thing in my life... And that was a bicycle. Long before drivers license!
