I have a Limited. If I ever get another truck I want a Platinum.
The model designations are simply interior decor.
The 1794 Edition has natural leather color seats.
The Platinum has black seats.
The Limited has gray seats.
I like the black seats. Our new Avalon is Classic Silver with black seats.

Isn't payload is less on those models? Newer SR5 models has everything I need including back up camera.

Yes. Payload is reduced with the fancier models. All the fancy stuff adds weight to the vehicle. Therefore reducing payload.

I've got the base model.. Manual seats etc.. I found some "limited" 20" wheels, then sold my steel ones, added leather seat covers, and a leather steering wheel cover all for about $600. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the Platinum, or highest end model they make, but mine isn't a every day driver. It sits quite a bit. Until I retire in about 4 years. It just didn't add up for me to spend the additional dollars and let them sit. Although when you think about it, I could have saved a few dollars with a cheap trailer.. Hehe.. Maybe I should upgrade on a newer and fancier Tundra.

I prefer the SR5. We don't like leather seats. Cloth is warm in the winter and cool in the summer and doesn't require the extra care of leather. I don't need Nav, dual AC/Heat, subwoofers. Five things I wish my 2010 Tundra had; 4x4, larger fuel tank, rear view camera, more payload than 1465lbs and a different color (ours is "work truck white"). Don't like the Crew Cabs which most dealers stock the most. The Tundra double cab which we have seems to be the most spacious of all the extended cabs. Local dealers here carry few Tundra DC and don't seem to get any new Tundras in very often compared to the Ford and GM dealers.

I found the exact same thing. Very few used Tundras. I also wanted a 6.5' bed to hold a motorcycle. Felt fortunate to find it.

When we bought an SR5, lots of things that are extra were pretty much standard in the major packages—tow mirrors with tow package, power driver's seat, fancy sound system, dual climate control. It is difficult to find any Toyota without the major packages added before it gets to the dealer.

We like the double cab—plenty of interior storage and 6.5' bed. The crew cab is not for a work truck unless you can get it with a 6.5' bed, and then you've got an even longer truck to park and maneuver.

We have had leather on some vehicles and I didn't find it all that hot or cold at the wrong time of year. Maintenance was pretty simple—leather cleaner once or twice a year. And a lot of what looks like leather is really vinyl and I can't tell the difference.

Very few used Tundras means good resale.

When shopping for our previous TV, I found a lot of used pickups on the market either recently had the engine and/or transmission replaced, or they were being sold because this needed to be done.

Just bought a 2010 on Friday. It's the 'Grade' version, but P.O. upgraded to 20" rims and all terrain tires.

Thinking of changing back to 18's. At least it would match the spare.

Thoughts on ride, handling, performance, and gas mileage?

I bought an 08 SR5 model 2wd and love it. It has all the equipment I need. The Limited costs many thousands more and only added leather interior and steering wheel controls. My truck was only 26k new; I am sure it has not depreciated much. It has been dead nuts reliable; great 5.7L motor and 6 speed trans. Mileage has been 13.5 towing and 19 solo traveling.

I have the same year Tundra as TouringDan. 2WD w/double cab. Get the same numbers on mileage. Could not be happier.

I have the Limited with leather and steering wheel controls. I bought it used with 8,000 miles for $30,000. I could probably sell it for $25,000 now. If I ever have to buy another truck I will get another Tundra.

I am presently towing a 23 foot International with a 2013 Tundra--the big boss Tundra. I am in Colorado and the truck is packed with four young men and all of their hiking gear...let me just say, I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!

The options don't take away from payload as much as cab size. In 2007 I think the regular cab tow capacity was 10,800#, the Double Cab tow capacity was 10,600#, and the Crew Max tow capacity was 10,400#. The bigger the cab, the lower the tow capacity.

Our Toyota Tundra double cab (2004 model) was recently totaled after being T-boned and rolled by a new teen driver who ran a stop sign. Fortunately, my husband lived to walk away but the truck was a total loss. This was our second Toyota truck (had a T100 prior).
We replaced it with a new 5.7 L Toyota Tundra extended cab (as big as the 2004 double cab inside) with the tow package. This new Tundra is getting 18 mpg in town and 18-19 mpg pulling our vintage Silver Streak (about 3500 lb) versus the 11 mpg the 2004 model got.
Needless to say, pulling a trailer with this new truck is so easy! We normally set cruise control to 65 mph and the truck takes over.
The rear view camera is so clear, we can literally back up the truck to couple the trailer without the assistance of another person.
The new Tundras are a great improvement over the earlier models. The turning radius is better, the mph is much better, and the engines are more powerful. You don't even know you are pulling a trailer!
