Toyota Tundra 1/2 ton tow vehicle

We have a new 22' Sport Airstream. We are planning on purchasing a 2007 Toyota Tundra crew cab, full bed, 5.7L, V8 engine with 155k miles as our tow vehicle.
We're wondering if anyone out there has a similar vehicle & how do you like it? Has anyone had any problems with this particular vehicle? We're interested in any feedback you might have.
Thank you.

What are the towing and payload capacities of the Tundra you're looking at?

I have a 2011 Tundra with same power plant plus tow pkg and now 77k We tow a 2006 Safari 23 6000 lbs.

If the Tundra has been properly maintained it would probably make a good TV. I'm sold on Toyota reliability. Olgas 2002 Camry has 165k and going strong

I've got a 2014 Tundra SR5 Double Cab with 5.7L V8 and 6 speed auto trans with 4.30 rear gears.

It pulls my 1969 25' Airstream Tradewind that weighs 5,000 lbs. loaded with ease.

Depending on the terrain it gets anywhere from 9 mpg to 19 mpg, it's lifetime average mpg is 13.7 mpg.

Oh did I mention this thing is a rocket even with the Tradewind.

I have the Sequoia version with the 5.7L engine with 155k miles on it and tow a 20' Globetrotter all over Colorado. Best towing gas engine in my mind. That vehicle won't sweat a bit towing my Airstream....but if I pull hard up the steep mountain passes (which it will easily do) it gets thirsty!

2014 Tundra with the big cab and regular bed.

Also a 22 Airstream.

Great combo.

We use an equalizer and experience no sway. Great truck with plenty of room, and plenty of power.

I have the truck as my daily driver, and get about 15 around town (not towing). We got about 12-13 mpg towing to Yellowstone and back this summer.

I think you will be happy with that combination.

08 Tundra 5.7 v8 extended cab full bed with tow package, pulling 2005 CCD International. never had a problem and can't imagine trading it... on flat roads, almost easy to forget you're pulling anything. I plan on keeping everybody together!

2016 Tundra Crew Cab 5.7L towing a 2016 25 Flying Cloud. In the mountains of Az and Co. No problems.
Ensure you have the tow package and the trans cooler. You may want to get a Scan Guage II to monitor trans temps. Here is the link:

http://www.scangauge.com/

If you do not have the factory tow package, I would recommend an after market trans cooler mounted in front of your radiator.

2012 Tundra Dbl Cab, 6.5' bed, 5.7, 4x4. Pulling a 23FB with no problems. We go to the mountains every summer. Great trucks, I wouldn't be afraid of one with 200,000 miles, if it's been well maintained.
There is a pretty big Tundra Tow Vehicle thread here on the forum. It's got a lot of good info in it.

Tundra/Sport Combo

I had a 2005 Tundra Ext Cab for 10 years, and loved it. Great truck. Purchased a 2012 Sport 22FB in 2013, and the Tundra did fine in flat terrain, but I live in Nevada, where mountain passes are abundant. Worried about engine strain in going over passes, as the limits of the truck were certainly being taxed. Ended up giving my Toyota to my daughter, where it is still going very strong at 125,000 miles, and purchased a 2015 Ford F250 Diesel with Tow Package. I have no regrets. The Ford is a bit overkill, but I have the confidence that I am not harming my engine by towing, and the ability to summit any pass with confidence. Very comfortable ride, and acceptable gas mileage.

Go for it! I have been towing either my "66 Globetrotter, '84 27' Sovereign (recently sold) or '08 23D International CCD with my 2000 Tundra which I've owned since 2002. Never a problem. Best vehicle I've ever owned.

Been There

My 2010 Tundra Crew Cab (Short Bed) 5.7L had no troubles. It towed our 22' Sport like it was a Radio Flyer kiddy wagon. In fact, we tow our 34' Panamerica without a problem!! However, they each have different hitch requirements!!! NOW, prepare yourself for the "warfare" to begin over the merits of 3/4 to 1-ton being a better choice. If you need a everyday driver, anything more than 1/2 ton is only worthwhile IF you have the need. The same for diesel power. Remember too, a lot of places SELL hitches; fewer are experts at setting them up. Take a tour of CanAm RV's site. They are based in London, Ontario CAN. Loads of sound advice. They setup my PanAm hitch. Andy, the owner, comes to the summer Alumapalooza frequently.

the 5.7L will pull your 22' with no problems. I Pulled a 25' cross country with no problems. I only moved to 250 diesel after moving to 30' trailer.
