I had heard that also. But it is an even more expensive option. My 2012 only has 65,000 miles on it. It is still like new. I'm thinking about spending a month or two in Alaska after I retire, in a few years. If I'm going to add or upgrade the fuel tank, I would want to do it while I'm working..

Toyota Tundra 1/2 ton tow vehicle
My 2007 has 57,000 miles.
Adding more fuel would take away from the already marginal payload.

anybody know if this new tank will bolt into a 2014 double cab in place of the original without lots of custom work?

I'm it sure if the new 36 gallon tank will retrofit.
If it did it might be $2,000.
I'm sure there is a less expensive aftermarket option.

I don't know the Toyota 4.5 diesel but their has to be a lot left with that tune. 268 HP 479 TQ is probably set up to run forever. My lil 3.0 diesel with basic tow tune does 268 HP 475 TQ and tows daily with 258k on the clock.
A 36 gallon tank would be nice even on my lil fuel sipper. The EcoD only has a 26 gallon tank. Highway unloaded gets me 700 miles on summer fuel but with TT in tow I have to run it really low to get 400 miles. I very much would like to see Toyota add a lil diesel to the Tundra lineup.

Yes, like two 5 gallon metal gas cans tied down in the bed. I got them on sale at Harbor Freight. The weight takes payload regardless, and the ratchet strap and gas cans cost a lot less than a new tank plus installment.
I haven't used either one yet for traveling, but did use one to fill my 6 gallon marine tank once which was hooked to a pair of Honda 2000's to make them run for several days without refilling.
I plan a refueling stop every 150 miles in hilly terrain, 200 on flat land. I am not in a rush, and enjoy the opportunity to stretch my legs, but I know there are places where there are long distances between gas stations. I actually plan the stop location down to the actual station. I also examine the on-off freeway on google maps... including checking the satellite photos for parking opportunities.
