Our Dmax crew cab long bed 4x4 has provided great service for 5 years, now. But it's huge around town. We park at the back of all parking lots in 2 spaces when unhitched.

Question: What happens to the kayaks?

Good luck, ;et me know if you need any help with the TC set-up.

Bill
Thanks, Bill. As a matter of fact, I do have a question. I will be going with a spray-in bed liner for Fred. Do you have a brand or type recommendation for thew liner?

We already park out by the street at Wal-Mart. We can stand the exercise.

The kayak will still go up on the roof with the Thule Hulavator.

Brian

Hi Brian, no specific recommendations on spray-in liners. I still use old school drop in as I have always had good luck with them and they stand up to the abuse pretty well. I often haul firewood, gravel, etc and the drop-ins excel in impact resistance. I do put a rubber matt on top before I load the TC to prevent slipping/sliding.
Having said that, if I was doing a spray-in (and I do think they are nice) I would opt for something non-skid. This way you won’t need a rubber mat…and you will want to be watching your weight. The mats can be 50#-100#! So light weight and non-skid would be the order for the day…
Be sure you have them wire the 7pin behind the cab. The harness is there, you will need to get the plug. This will free up the rear plug for Lucy.

I have gotten the YU2 option, trailer wiring provisions for camper, fifth wheel, and goose neck trailer.

Brian, that gets you the harness...no plug on the end of it IIRC...you may want to check.

Sound's Great . Congrats. Have you Chosen Ethel yet? Ive thought of 4X4 Slide in campers. Its been a while since my last research. The power hook up in bed will come in handy for hook up in camper. Engel Fridge etc.
What is Gas tank size? Relative just got Ford Version of your's to tow his 5th wheel and it came w/ 23 gal? tank. Now he has to add after market tank $ 1500.

Brian, I know you didn't ask me, specifically, but I highly recommend Line-X. I've had it in two different trucks and cannot find one bad thing to say. Good nation-wide warranty as well.

We sure have. Ethel is going to be an Outfitter Apex 8 pop-up truck camper. We have already ordered her. She should be built in the second week of September. That will give us time to get Fred broken-in and set-up for the truck camper. The photos below are similar to what Ethel will look like.

the '11 Silverado 3500 Dmax comes with a 36 gallon fuel tank. We're going to try that for a while, but have researched after market in-frame tanks that can hold 60 gallons. Like you said, though, they're over $1,000.

I would also look closely at the Line-X as they look a bit more refined. We have them in our trucks at work and seem to hold up well..
I had a Rhino liner in my previous truck, It seems tough enough but it can be peeled up with a shovel. I also don't like the sloppy look (drips off the bed rail) and the chalky appearance after some time in the sun.

I just did some research on the Line-X, and I think that I am going to go with it. I priced it over in Fort Walton Beach, and I was quoted $560 for up over the side rail. I then got a quote for the same job from the Line-X dealer in Jacksonville, and was quoted $450. Since we are in Jacksonville quite often, we will get it there.

Beautiful popup.going to check it out. 36 Gals. Very nice. I was looking to see if Ford eco -Boost could get a 36 Gal. Nope. Why do these companys get so close to making an ideal set up and Don't!
It's going to be a very nice set up to drop the stream and wonder off into the back country.

Hi Brian; you will like the line-x liners. I have had 3 over the years in different trucks. Two cons, hard on the knees as it is rough and objects slide on it. I understand it now comes in colors also.
It is VERY durable though. The cities up her in the mid west have their salt trucks lined with the line-x and has lasted 5 plus years.
