towing with ford expedition

I currently have a 2014 ford expedition limited edition suv for a tow vehicle. The ford manual says it can tow 9200 pounds. I really love the new classic which comes in about 7500 dry. My wife and I don't pack a lot of items and normally travel with empty black and gray tanks with maybe a quarter water tank. Can the expedition handle this classic? I would be putting in a weight distribution hitch with sway bars.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

This is a good candidate for advice and/or towing setup by North America's best travel trailer hitch shop, and you're not that far away. Contact Can-Am RV in London, Ontario and save yourself a lot of experimenting.

How did it go towing with the Expedition? I also have a 2016 Expedition EL 4X4 with HD towing package...We want to pull our 34' Excella with it today to get on the scales and see what the actual weight is (after remodeling it). Paperwork says 7100lbs dry, but that was before I gutted and re-did everything. My Expedition supposedly will pull 9100. I'd love to hear about your experience with this vehicle. I might be getting a truck for Mother's Day!

Look at the photo that is the header on this forum. Don't I see mostly SUV's?
The idea that you must have a 3/4 ton truck with a diesel engine is a recent concept.

I tow with a 2013 5.4L Limited EL 4x4 with HD tow package. It does great. I am up against the rear axle weight limit, but it is manageable.

In a couple of years I will definitely trade it in and a new Expedition will be on the list.

i have towed my 2017 classic 3 times now totalling about 4,000 miles. i purchased a used Hensley hitch and the towing is excellent. Went down through the mountains in Cumberland, MD and across Jelico Mountain. No problem towing up or down those small mountains. Very few trucks passed me up the hills and I passed several on my way up. Averaged a little over 10 MPG.
