Do you still have the same rig, and how is it going?
Your last post was in May in that other thread:

Widespread towing with EVs isn’t here. I remain confident it will be, because an EV has a superior powertrain for precisely this kind of task. Let’s see how the commercial EV truck market evolves, because I think that’s a reasonable precursor to towing campers.

I do! Sorry, I don't visit over here as often as I used to. My Sport is currently in the shop for warranty work, and I'm in the process of planning our trip for next summer. Thinking California up through Tahoe and Nevada, down into Utah and across the Rockies. I have a friend in Colorado we could visit for a while, do some camping in the Rockies, and back the southerly route and up the California coast to home.
Last summer we were overseas for a while, so I only fit in a couple of shortish trips - one up to Tahoe and down 395, then some boon docking above Yosemite. Another to Lassen Volcanic.
I'm still waiting on a bigger Model X battery. The 100D is very tempting, as it offers me a chance to charge to less than 100% in a lot of cases (much faster charging), but I'm holding out hope for another jump in capacity. I'd trade up as soon as that happened.

The Model X has plenty of torque, but that is not the only issue for towing. The hitch receiver is limted to 500 lbs weight carrying and a weight distribution hitch is not allowed. The biggest Airstream that can be towed is a 22 Sport or similar trailer under 5000 lbs.

The 23 comes in at around 4800 lbs empty, 6000 lbs GVR.
I think the problem is the unibody and the way the receiver is attached to it.

Yes, similar to both our Ford Transit vans, in contrast to the old Econoline E-350 Club Wagon which could tow the old 25' AS handily. The new vans are great cars, but for real towing capacity they are limited.

Looking thru the Tesla owners manual I also notice that it cannot be towed (the spinning wheels generate electricity and heat and could cause the vehicle to burst into flames). I had thought perhaps a model 3 would make a great daily driver for a class A motor home, but apparently not.

Well, they towed it across the country so there’s probably a safety factor there.

That Tesla-towing-Airstream demo tour used a very-lightly-loaded AS, which we saw in NY. Not sure they had stats on the gross/tongue weights, but they were probably right at the rated minimums for that model IMO.

Also no propane bottles, to reduce tongue weight.

Thanks for jogging my memory . . custom Airstream . . . from June 2107.
Trailer is hitched to Tesla, so this is curb side. Looking through the large opening, you can see a door on the other side to the left of the material/color sample board on the wall. The door to the right of that board on the street side is open, and you can see the hedge and awning support arm.

I replaced my stock Bosal hitch with an aftermarket Draw-Tite. It is technically rated for 750 lbs of tongue weight, but the vehicle manufacturer limitation should still be observed at 500 lbs. It does give a higher factor of safety, though. It is also capable of handling weight distribution.

There is a tow mode, but I think it times out after too short a period (something like 20-30 minutes). It is intended for loading onto a flatbed. There's also neutral, but neutral requires someone in the driver's seat. Since they can disengage the motor, it seems like this is a feature that should be added. It would make for a cool car with a class A, I agree. Especially since you'll always have "fueling" ability at the site.
