Cool Towing with a 1/2 ton

I'm considering purchasing a Sport 22 FB with a GVWR of 4500 lbs. I own a 2003 chevrolet 1500 extended cab four wheel dirve with a 4.10 rear axle ratio, a heavy duty trailering equipment package and a 5300 V8. The truck has a 6400 GVWR. Will my truck be able to tow this trailer without to much trouble?

I tow a 25' with a 1/2 ton Chevy 1500 and have been to FL. many times so it should be no problem. I think the only trouble I would have is if I went out west with the long hill climbs.

I tow my 29' and have no problems. If I hit hills, I slow down.

You should be fine towing. Check your owners manual on the truck and verify whether you can tow in OD or need to stay in 3rd. the 2500 series trucks with the 4.10 axle can tow in OD as long as tranny isn't hunting back and forth. The 1500's might be a smaller tranny which won't hold up with OD towing.

Bottom line check the manual, don't rely on opinions on this one.

No problem towing, 05 Burb 1500 with a 25' Sovereign. Crossed over the Smokies this Spring, almost a piece of cake. Slow and easy she goes.

1/2 Ton Towing

No problem. We use a 2009 Chevy 1/2 ton 4X4 with the same engine to pull our renovated/updated 65 Safari. I used to use a 3/4 ton and find the 1/2 ton rides and pulls smoother. The suspension on the 3/4 ton was too stiff.....Tim

That's the ideal tow vehicle for an Airstream. It should pull like a dream behind your truck.

We tow our '83 Excella 27' with our 1999 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. The owner's manual says to tow in OD. You may need to take it easy on the long hills, but should be OK
We get from 12.5 to 15 mpg depending on the terrain. We do keep the speed down to 55 to 58 mph.

Been towing my 25fb around but minus my usual Rockies and other large mountains - at 65 mph average speed I'm getting 16.5 - 16.8 mpg.

LOVE me some diesel

Don't know why the US trucks in the 150/1500 class don't have one as an option....

Chevy did build half-ton diesels up through '97. They also had a smaller DuraMax intended for the lighter duty pickups and the Hummer H2 slated for production up until the economy nearly wiped out GM last year. Still no word if it will ever see production now. I'm a big fan of diesels myself. My 8,200 pound crew cab dually with a 4.10 rear end gets 19 on the highway and around 15 towing.

H2 Diesel - I would have been all over that! Fingers crossed they can get a nice diesel the 1500 since the interior seems to be a bit nicer than the HD class (or put it in a "Burb")...

Isn't it amazing that people want a right sized diesel for a basic pick up and yet in NA it is not available.
When will the NA vehicle manufacturers start building what folks want??? Not what they think they need or what brings them the largest profits!
