This is 8,000,000 ghost smog producing vehicles.

That is a problem . VW got caught and they will have to face the consequences .
Not 40% greater, rather 40 times.

Emissions Cluster*uck.

Well the V6 TDIs haven't been implicated (yet).

So for now Toureg, Q7, Cayenne Diesel are fine (for now).

These engines all have the Urea system, so even if it turns out there was cheating on the road in software, it *should* be possible to fix the problem in software.

The Passat had Urea, the Jetta didn't in the same 4 cylinder engine, on paper the claim was that you got 2MPG less on the smaller jetta because it had been tuned down to meet emissions. The passats should be fixable, and the jettas too but nobody knows what the performance/milage hit will be.

I think a Urea retrofit on the little cars is a non-starter.

So you agree that the climate is changing.

What you don't appear to agree with is the overwhelming and multiple lines of evidence that man is a significant cause of both current warming, and resultant climate change.

Lots of good information available if you are interested in learning about it.

This matters, and is on topic, because it is difficult to have a discussion about manufacturers cheating on emissions tests if one doesn't accept that there are consequences to polluting.

I'm all for reducing environmental pollution! We need to be conscientious about minimizing our pollution of the environment. But I don't believe that we're going to be effecting climate change very much by doing so.

Get off your horse. Combustion(producing CO2) is what humans do.

Towing w/ VW TDI post emissions scandal

There is no practical repeatable evidence within the public sphere that atmospheric CO2 in concentrations of a few molecules per ten thousand can have any meaningful/measurable affect on temperature whatsoever.

At the root of AGW theory is an assertion that can not be backed up with evidence.

Additionally, if fossil fuels are in fact fossil fuels, where did the carbon contained therein come from except the biosphere itself?

Brevi tempore!

And back on VW.....

A German newspaper has published a letter from Bosch (the supplier of VW engine control software and emissions systems) to VW, stating that the software that Bosch developed to circumvent the emissions tests was for testing purposes only, and can not be used in cars offered for sale. The letter was written in 2007.

The same newspaper (Bild) reports that the German Department of Motor Vehicles has told VW that they have to present a binding plan on how they will fix the emissions problem in the 2.8 million VW diesels on the road in Germany by October 7. If not, the government will cancel permission for those autos to be operated on the road in Germany.

Seems the EPA may be the least of VW's problems.

Add to this that the European Central Bank has advised VW that they will not be providing any more loans. They currently provide the backstop financing for VW's new vehicle sales and leasing programs.

Actually I have scoured it www, there is not a single proof that I could find that will demonstrate that CO2 in concentrations of a three, four, or even ten parts of CO2 can cause a measurable increase in temperature.

If you can find such proof, post it up so that I might examine it.
