Yes, most of the the HD models retained disc, 1500s did not...except the SS when it was produced.

You have a Duramax now, are you needing to trade down or wanting something new?

I want something new in the next year or so, and I am considering a 1/2 ton, but not committed yet because the weight/towing capacity numbers are too close at this time.

If you go to post #25 this thread, I listed my requirement for a 1/2 ton truck there.

Have you considered a suburban? (since you want a topper)

You mentioned no "suicide" doors. You may or may not know that GM has improved those doors on the extended cabs. They open fully now. I don't really need the full back seat for passengers and find the opposite opening doors handy because it opens the truck up fully from the side. It also allows for a 6.5' bed with a reasonable wheel base.

Yes, the shorter wheelbase is what I like about the extended cab sized truck. I had an '07 extended cab GMC 1/2 ton and the whole time I had it, I hated the suicide rear doors, but liked all the rest of it.

r carl, I find it strange that I need to explain why I don't want something, but if you must, here goes....I haul stuff frequently in the rear of the truck that I wouldn't want in the rear of an SUV. I haul stuff routinely that would require removing the rear seat, and folding down the middle seats in an SUV, even a big one like a Suburban, to get enough room. I never need the seating capacity of an SUV. Those things that I haul would in time damage the interior of an SUV. It gets HOT in Texas, and a large SUV takes a long time to cool down inside, even with two airconditioners. We have two other vehicles, smaller SUV's, and do not need or want a third.

I really hope these are enough reasons to satisfy everyone's mind about why I don't want an SUV.

7. 1800 Payload capacity
8. Not white, not red, not black

If any of you find a 1/2 ton truck with these features, please let me know.

Hi, I'm not sure about the meaning of anything that I can't read. We'll continue this talk tomorrow.

You will get a diesel before you get an extended cab (super cab) truck with front hinged center post rear small door cab that you couldnt get into because of the center post.

Nope, I can get one right now...both Ram and Toyota build them, and GM trucks in '14 year model will have them.
