Hi msport; Your boat, pending the size of the engine and trailer loaded with fuel, may easily reach over 5000 lbs. Even with the hydraulic brakes on the trailer, you are pushing your limit due to the low [aluminum] towing vehicle weight. You should research the towing capacity on the vehicle first, then decide if you wish to chance it. I have been for over forty years in a boat business, and do not have a single customer who has such towing combination. Thanks, "Boatdoc"

Your BMW probably has a 1600kg (3527 lb) rated towing capacity. Adhering to this is a legal requirement in the UK.

The car would probably do very well up to this limit (even with the four cylinder engine), but 4500 to 5000 lbs will result in a lot of clutch slip, especially when retrieving the boat from the water.

Hi Boatdoc, thanks for reply when they give the weight for boat online does this not include engine weight too?? the engine is a 4.3 merc. The boat is on a twin axle trailer (braked). The towing capacity on my car is 1600kg, what do you think?? thanks for all other feedback!

B/D is probably right-on!!

I think that for a 19ft I/O loaded for an afternoon at the lake and considering you will probabily have more than one person in the car, you will most likley be over the 80% guide. Not saying it can't be done but it may be a real white knuckle affair.
