Question Towing

I am looking at purchasing a new 22' Airstream CCD and I am debating over what to tow it with. The choices are 2004, 2005 Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan. Does anyone have any experience with theses two choices?

This has got nothing to do with the topic, but I'm continually amazed with how many Austin-area Airstream folks there are on this forum! It's so cool!

If you are looking at a vehicle that just meets the towing ability, then you are not going to be happy with yourself in the long run. This goes with the saying of "...If you are going to do something, do it right the first time...".

Have you looked at the Dodge Durango or the pick up with the Hemi ??? Or the pick up with the diesel ???

I think I'd agree with Roger

in getting more than enough pulling power. We have found ourselves underpowered several times in our trailer history. There always seems to be an unexpected trade-up along the road; first the trailer, then the vehicle then the trailer then a vehicle...At 22 foot, don't be surprised if you get the bug to go even bigger before too long. This is all sooo habitforming.

The Titan will tow it with aplomb.

The Tundra will do fine with an appropriate rear-end ratio. With only a 4.7L engine, you are going to want more than a 3.73 ratio with the Tundra.

I towed my International AS (same weight) with a 5.3L Chevy and a 3.42 rear end ratio. I should have had a 3.73 and it would have done just fine. As it was, it was very acceptable after iI installed a Banks system for more power.

You don't need a Hemi or a Duramax for the 22' Airstreams.

I have heard many, many good things about the Titan. It has a great engine with tow rating north of 9000#. IMHO, it would make a fantastic tow vehicle for the 22' CCD. You will not regret getting the Titan.

The Tundra gets mixed reviews towing and it has a smaller engine. Definitely the Titan over the Tundra.
