Tow Vehicle Stress on Hills

A few years ago my buddy headed out to Vermont for a weeks vacation. They had an older Monte Carlo and towed a small tent trailer.
On one of the narrow, steep hills the older car heated up and boiled over. They decided to go no further, unhitched the trailer, turned the car and trailer around, hooked the trailer back up, drove back down the hill and headed for the border. They finished their vacation in Maine and had a great time.

Was wondering if there are any other interesting stories of tow vehicles getting stressed out climbing a steep grade.

We weren't towing anything which will make this sound even worse. My father had a 63 Falcon Futura and we went on a trip to Lake Maumelle which is in Arkansas, can't remember exactly where but there were "big" hills. There were five of us kids ranging from toddler to teenagers plus Dad and Mom. We tried to go up this real long steep hill and the Falcon could only make it about 3/4 the way. We backed down and tried it again, no luck. Dad made us all get out and walk the rest of the way, probably half a mile while he attempted it again solo. He made it!! True story!! I can still remember the grille of a big Caddy that was honking at us, probably thought we were a family of nuts.

Ever since I have always made sure I had a big enough engine in all my cars, tow vehicle or not.
