Tow Hitch Recommendation

Tow Vechicle - 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 with Quadra-Lift air suspension package (6,200 lbs max. Gross Trailer Weight). Trailer - 2016 Airstream Sport 16 (GVWR 3,500 lbs, 350 lbs Hitch Weight). The Jeep provides full time automatic load leveling. According to Jeep if trailer is over 5,000 lbs a weight-distributing hitch is mandatory.

Considering my tow vechicle and light Sport 16 trailer should I install a weight-distributing hitch with sway control or a sway control hitch only? If you have a manufacture and model name recommendation please let me know.

I want to be able to travel gravel roads with as much ground clearance as possible.

Thank you for your comments!

I have not worked with an air suspension system while setting up a hitch but my first thought would be the air system would have to be turned off while setting up the hitch.

Filter the information you will get here looking only to those who have set up such a system because conflicts between the hitch and suspension are to be expected.

I would also consider going to a Cat scale before and after set up

You may find that your TV and trailer will be just fine on the ball without a WD hitch. But it all depends on how much you load TV and TT. Load up and go to the scales and weigh loaded and unloaded with trailer on the ball and see what you have.

I towed a 19' Bambi on a Touareg with full air suspension and it did fine on the ball with just a friction sway bar. But if I was heavy loaded with gear and full water, a WD hitch helped to distribute the weight.
