tow 19" bambi with volvo xc60

I have a 2015.5 Volvo XC60 T5 that lists towing capacity as 3500lbs. Could I safely tow a 19 inch Bambi with it?

19 inches shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure Barbie rides in the Volvo and the not camper.
Can that be ordered in any color other then pink?

If by chance you mean the 19 foot flying cloud then in my opinion the answer would be no. But you know what they say about opinions. The empty weight of the 19 allready exceeds the tow capacity of the Volvo by 300 pounds. Someone will inevitably post that it can be done and to get in contact with Canam. With help from some experts like Canam it might be done safely but it means exceeding Volvos numbers. In the end you have to make a decision that makes you feel comfortable.

Most likely the towing capacity for your car is higher in Europe. Worth checking for a reference.

We have a 19' and tow with a 2016 Tacoma with tow package. I wouldn't feel comfortable with your set up as the towing capacity is too little, and I doubt the Volvo has a towing package with transmission cooler, etc. You may feel like your Bambi is pushing the Volvo around on the road, especially if you get in a compromising situation ... like having to stop suddenly, slowing on a downgrade, or avoiding an accident. My 2¢. Good luck!

Evan, it's been my experience on this forum, that truck people, no matter how well intentioned, simply can't conceive of a TV that's not a truck. Unfortunately, many have never tried an alternative TV because they think it's unsafe. My wife and I towed a 19' FC with our 2014 Volvo XC60 T6 AWD for years without a problem. Talk with Andy Thomson at Can-Am RV, who, unlike some/most(?) who comment on this forum, has spent years/decades actually testing various TV/trailer combinations, and determined that yes, there are many safe alternatives to trucks as TVs, including the Volvo XC60/70. You might be interested that the early Volvos imported to the US were rated for 3500 lbs towing capacity (a/c Andy) despite only having 100 hp. Our XC60 has 300+ hp, with 325 lb-ft of torque at 2100 rpm, and is still rated 3500 lbs towing capacity. Go figure. You'll find many on this forum who have followed Andy's advice with great success, myself included.

Right on, BD! I tow my 20 footer with a Tacoma now. But in years past I towed a large utility trailer with a 150 hp Ford Explorer. A friend tows a 22-23' tandem axle travel trailer (not an AS) with a later model Mercury version of the Explorer. Your Volvo is a big step up from those.

You can do whatever you want, but if you showed up at the place I work with that tow vehicle, you would be strongly discouraged from using it.

Tow Vehicle

Pay your money, take your choice (and the level of safety and liability are comfortable with...)

Good luck making an emergency stop... because sooner or later, will have to... but I will not be riding with you...

I wouldn't consider towing our 19' with our XC90. Check all your specs and I think you'll find it wouldn't be a good idea. Towing on this forum is a very subjective topic and not something you should take for sound science. Read all you can. Some information here is helpful; some not so much. Don't rely just on this forum, look elsewhere. You're the one having to make the decision concerning the safety and appropriateness of towing with your configuration.

Stable full independent suspension, solid unibody construction, low center of gravity, turbo-charged engine with good relative torque to weight, disc brakes, worth a look. As stated above Andy Thomson at Can-Am RV Airstream has set this up successfully for a forum member along with thousands of other vehicles.

A most important feature of the vehicle, you already own it. Can-Am has a form on their website to advise you if and how this would work for you, they are the towing experts.

I do recall someone who was towing a lot more than a 19 footer with their XC60 and when they got a new Volvo they were going to drive from Alberta to CanAM to have it set up.

'nough said!

He DID figure it out. He brought the question to the AirForums to gain support to prove it to the Gigadier-Brindel.

FWD or AWD? We have an XC90 (but don't tow with it - have a Ram 3500 for that), and I made sure I got the AWD on the Volvo to make it a little more sure-footed. As advised above, Andy at CanAm in Ontario is the go-to guy when it comes to recommending (or not) AS/car towing combos.

Volvos Are Built to Tow!

The transmission cooler comes standard on all Volvos, and they are rated to tow (and have won awards for towing) far higher weights in Europe than the US. Some say this is due to the higher speed limits in the US, whereas in Europe there are usually strict speed restrictions for towing safely (usually around 50 mph). For instance, in the US a 2015 or newer Volvo XC60 is rated to tow 3,500 lbs; in Europe that same Volvo is rated to tow 5,291 lbs. This is for a braked trailer.

As always, it's important to take into consideration tongue weight and a proper hitch as well as the weight of your water, propane, etc. when calculating the total weight you will be towing. And always keep it under 55 mph. Be safe, everyone!
