Tonneau Cover for truck

I have a trifold by REV that came with my F150 as a Ford recommended dealer accessory. It works great. Has drain lines and so far is water tight.

Extruded aluminum, retractable, and can carry 500 pounds on top if needed.
It will leak a little along the edges of the bed in car wash or heavy rain.
Had my current one eight years. It has worked flawlessly.
Pricey though.

I'd say "it depends on what you want from your tonneau". I wanted security for the stuff I carry (rejected soft covers as a result), easy one person removal and installation (rejected caps), ability to open fully to carry tall cargo like garbage cans and a wheelchair (rejected hinged full covers). I was willing to tolerate a few leaks. Given those expectations, I picked an Extang Solid Fold and love it. I also built a bike rack that rides on top of it. Some other tonneaus wouldn't have allowed that but the extang is weight bearing within limits. See my gallery for a pic of that if you are interested.

I am very happy with the DiamondBack. The standard, which I have, can carry 600 lbs. and the HD 1,600 lbs. for those who want to carry an ATV or other heavy toy. Secure, no leaks, gas lifts so no strain.

I guess I don't know how to upload two photos in the same post. Also, one person can take the panels off in minutes without tools or the whole cover in about 15 minutes with a wrench.

I have the BAK Roll-x. Same maker as your BAK flip, but it's a roll-up version. I've been very happy with it. Keeps everything secure and dry. "Dry" is really saying something here in Vancouver, WA. We had record rainfall this winter.

Truxedo ... tight...easy roll and I got the one that also flips from front as well as back. Easy to fuel my in-bed tank. Been on the super duty for several years. If you need a replacement part they are good to work with.

I researched the heck out of this with aesthetics, cost and security as my top priorities as well as the ability to carry our satellite dish and generator under the cover. With all of this in mind, for me, the winner was the Peragon cover.. here’s why:

1. Extends easily but folds to occupy nearly none of the bed
2. Easy one person removal
3. Can be operated by my wife
4. Lockable
5. Fits the satellite and a champion 3500 inverter (21” clearance when closed)
6. Looks great
7. It’s made of aluminum (come on.. the truck and the Airstream are aluminum too, I had to stay consistent!) Also light so I’m not sacrificing pounds with my already limited payload on the 2016 f150 Platinum..

Drawbacks (nothing is perfect):
1. If bulky items slide to the forward part of the bed while the cover is extended, they will need to be dragged back to the rear of the bed to allow it to open (problem solved for me with a $15 cargo management bar from harbor freight..)
2. If heavy items slam into the cover when it is in its retracted position it could theoretically dent. I’ve had may garbage cans already slam it pretty hard and no damage done, but I was worried for a bit...



All in all I’m very pleased. It’s made in the USA which, for me, was an added bonus. I had a different brand on my prior platinum and it was a “flipping” pain and did not retain its looks.
