Tire Anxiety

We are preparing to return to our home in Texas from New Brunswick, a 2,500 mile trip. Our tow vehicle is a 2013 Ford F150 Super Crew, with a heavy duty tow package. The original tires are still on the truck, with 38,000 miles. They are Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenzas, 275 R55 20, with a maximum load rating of 2,403 lbs. I'm nervous about making the trip with them, and feel that getting a D or E load rated tire might be good insurance. Am I being too paranoid about the tires? The local dealer here has some BF Goodrich TA-K02 tires, load rated D. The tread is more aggressive than I would normally prefer. Tough to find other D or E rated tires in 20".

I have Michelins in 20"... They scrape the Chevy wheel well on one side when I turn tight. Otherwise great in wet and dry

If you are having any tire anxiety at all, it would be worth it to me to get some new tires. Surely, in the DFW area, you can find tires like you want.

I can recommend Cooper AT3's. I have them on our F250 and like them.

BFF AT tires are great. Don't let thr more agrees I've looking treasy fool you. They are quiet on the road. I have ran them 20 years on 2 vehicles. The first set on my Toyota lasted 89k miles. The second set 55k miles before the sidewalls cracked more than my liking.

Perhaps you can wait until you get to a larger urban area inside the US and get them changed. If you find a dealer with a big enough lot you could probably drop the trailer right there and hookup when they're done. When I lived in the Denver area, I took the trailer and truck on more than one occasion to the local Discount tire dealer where they changed tires on the truck and/or trailer, while they were still hitched together.

I put Michelin D rated MS-2's LT 20" on my wife's Lincoln LT truck and also have the,same tread design on my F-250 and our AS. To say I like them is an understatement.

You can buy tires in New Brunswick. Probably cheaper than in the US. Are not the tires on it now D rated? 38000 is probably a good portion of life from the originals. I bought a set of tires for my truck on the way back from Price Edward Island this summer because I had a flat on the way. Pick a dealer and get a set installed. Take care of it before you leave if you can. We had to wait 2 days (3 extra nights in the campground) in Plattsburg, NY to get the E Michelins I run on my 2500 truck.

If you REALLY wanted to elevate your list of choices, you could always buy 4, 18" rims, and then you could get some E rated Michelin's, BFG, Goodyear, Cooper...the list goes on & on. The PO of my new-to-me Duramax did just that. It came with 20's, but he got frustrated with the selection of tires available to him with that size rim. He wanted the Michelin man waving at his friends on his truck. So what, the speedometer reads about 2 miles faster than you are actually going. You won't get a speeding ticket!

Bottom line is, you're not STUCK with putting a 20" tire on there. Heck...you could even shnazz your truck up a bit with some purty new rims. Shweeeet!!
