Third Generation C/K Suburbans

I see posts on vintage and newer Suburbans, but very little on the in between years. I don't think a 1978 qualifies as vintage, but I'm considering a older 'Burb for my 1960 TW. This 1978 'Burb in particular on Craigslist. From my brief research (Wikipedia) I see the 1973 - 1991 years represent the "third generation C/K" models. I would love to hear from any forum members familiar with these models and hear any thoughts on performance, durability, and potential problems. And would you tow cross-country with your older 'Burbs? I want freedom from elevation limits on where I could go.

I've talked to the owner and believe this one is well-maintained, miles are original. It's towed nothing bigger than a 16 foot ski boat. My TW would max at 4100 with a BIG load, but I don't know the specifics on towing capacity or GCVW for these. I think he's asking to much for it, but he is open to offers. I'm looking in person tomorrow.

4000# of trailer wt. should be well within the limits of either the 1/2 Ton or the 3/4 ton versions. The 1500 model is 1/2 ton, 2500 model is 3/4. Fuel injected model years eliminate the issues of running too rich at high elevations. Look up the web sites for chevy trucks and read their comments. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, Bob. I'll check some of the truck sites too and see what other info I can find.
