the Lamda Thread (GM:Outlook/Traverse/Acadia/Enclave)

Just pulled the trigger on a 2011 Acadia, which will eventually replace the aging pick-em-up truck, to pull the 73 Safari (3800lb empty/5800gvw).

The Lamda platform is mentioned quite a bit here, but mostly scattered about in different places. I thought it would be nice to have one thread to post real-world experience, mods, pics, and what have you.

The model we got is an SLT, with the factory tow package, and 19" wheels with P255/55R19 tires. (stock from the factory--goodyears). It rides like a Caddy; very smooth, and quiet, but the handling still seems plenty firm. I know quite a few people have mentioned changing tires from stock on these, but I'm wondering if that is going to be necessary, here, as these are fairly low-profile already. (Overall wheel height is another issue, though--these would be 31", according to an online tire size calculator).

Here's a minor concern: will the tail-gate clear the tongue jack on the trailer, when hooked up?

Anyone got any pics of the Can-Am hitch modification?

It'll be a while before I'm able to actually pull the camper, as it is under renovation. (need to get busy on that, again ). But I expect that this vehicle should do a fine job, considering the reports from people pulling much larger, heavier trailers than I will.

get ready for the too small to tow crowd to belly up to the bar..

I think the enclave is a great tow vehicle as told by owners and trailer towers with them. They are the same platform as the Yukon which is touted as a good TV, but for some reason the same ones will say the enclave is not worthy.

damned if you do and dammed if you don't. Andy T has outfitted a bunch of them and I have read articles from owners, many whom came for the pickup truck world, rave about the power, stability and secure feeling when pulling with the enclave and family vehicles. Plus a lot are using the Pro pride and hensley so that may be the difference it seems.

Good luck and good pulling.

well..my trailer ain't that heavy...likely to be within factory spec for this tow vehicle, actually.

No, its actually quite different. The Yukon is based on a pickup design--body on frame, v8, rear wheel drive, etc. The Acadia is unibody, fwd/AWD, independent suspension, v6...and considerably less expensive. Amazingly, the Lamda has more room inside than the yukon/tahoe. It sure doesn't look it, to me, but thats what the specs show. Lamda has a longer wheel base, but I'm thinking it must be the height of the body-on-frame Yukon, and its square shape that make it *look* bigger.

One thing I noticed yesterday: I'm going to need a new shank for the hitch. I needed the biggest one available for my pickup truck, because it sits so high. The receiver on the Acadia is 2" closer to the ground than the receiver on the ol' pickup. I might even be able to use the old custom made weld-up shank that came with the trailer, now that I think of it.
