Skater - How are you liking your Ram for a TV? I just ordered a 2015 Ram 3500 SRW 4x4, Crew/8' box with Cummins and 6 spd stk. for our new TV. Curious as to your experience?

2200 miles in, mostly towing, and we love it. Of course, our previous truck towed our trailer very well, too, but it required frequent refills of coolant. The engine in the Ram is quiet and more efficient. The DEF thing is a little hassle, but not a big deal; there's a gauge on the dash for it so there are no surprises.

2011 Eco boost f150

Over the pass 20 yrs I have own every diesel towing vehicle except dodge , my mistake .i currently pull my 1988 29 ft. Excella 1000 with my 2011 supercab ecoboost along with a 24 Searay boat and in a pinch a whisper watt 85 kW site generator. I travel up and down the west coast 6% to 8% grades are not a problem however unlike the diesels there is little engine braking you need to keep an eye on the down hill as speed will increase ,I Stay in the far right lane and use what ever gear I went up the hill to come down and use the same speed the truckers use with out riding the brakes .its hard to pass up,the interior space ,with the seat up and the doors wide open you can stuff it like Santa's Sleigh and keep it dry
I forgot my 2011 has 140,000 miles on it

The Ford F350 Super Duty is our third towing Pick Up. All have been Crew Cabs with 6.5' Bed. Would not go any other way and there are only two of us and our dog. I would suggest however, two points. (1) the rear area of the F150 is larger in that crew over the super duties (2) the bed area may not have the payload capacity but the bed is deeper, the sides and tail gate can carry more volume under a cover. (3) the tail gate on the super duties can be opened and put in the open position without hitting the jack on the AS, the F150 being deeper and therefore tailgate taller cannot, this tailgate hits the jack.

My 2000 SuperCab makes wind noise where the two doors touch when going around a corner.
My other concern of a Crew Cab is the turning radius or just the overall length.

As far as I know, 8 foot boxes aren't available on crew cabs anymore. The longest trucks are Super Cabs with 8 foot boxes, darn tough in the Walmart parking lot.

Not in the half ton models, usually. Sometimes you can find them in the "contractor" versions of the trucks, which are usually pretty stripped. For a crew cab + 8' bed, you almost have to go to a .75 or 1-ton truck. (I spent a lot of time looking into this over the summer.)

i have had both versions in a Ford. the crew cab, IMHO, is the way to go as not only can you carry 5 big adults in comfort, it also gives you a bunch of storage space inside the cab.

the extended cab in the Ford is no where equivalent to the extended cab in a Tundra so don't mix up the two manufacturers thinking they will be the same.

Tundra's CrewMax is bigger, too. Ram MegaCab is the only other one that compares. Also, the Tundra's doors open almost to 90 degrees compared to 45 degrees on older GM crew cabs.

Our Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo diesel was great until the computer recall / updates. Don't let them touch it - ours never was right (in terms of economy or power) after the multiple re-programmings. It was a 2012 and for no other reason than poor dealer technical service and multiple recalls (some still open after 1 1/2 years), we traded to a different brand.

Super cab or super crew ?

I have a 2006 f150 supercab. I have two smaller kids, and find it too small. With car seats their feet are always bouncing off the front seats. Next time I will totally go with the Crew Cab. The crew will cost you more to start, but you will make it back on resale.

Also, keep an eye on f250s some times you can get one for just a few K more.

Just my thoughts..
