Suburban "Quadrasteer" Question
I am looking at a nice '05 Suburban 2500 with 6.0L 4sp and "Quadrasteer" which I know nothing about. Bad? Good? Neutral?
Any 'Burb experts with comments?

There is someone on here that tows with one of those...
I can't remember who.
Look on the Duraburb thread to see who it is.

You are correct. I am the guy with the Quadrasteer. Actually I have had two of them. I have a 2005 Yukon XL 2500 Quadrasteer that I originally bought as a GM executive car with 6,000 miles on it back in 2005. We call this tow vehicle Olivia and she currently has 135,000 on her. We also had a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Quadrasteer. Her name is Daisy, and we sold her to our son in Atlanta two Years ago. We drove her to 85,000 miles. she currently has 110,000 miles on her.
Between Olivia and Daisy, we towed Lucy (our 2005 Safari 25FB) 120,000 miles over eight years. Both of our Quadrasteers are still daily drivers and towers. Neither one has ever had any mechanical problem with the four wheel steering.
The Quadrasteer Suburbans are amazing. A Suburban with the turning radius of a Honda Civic is something to behold. We call Olivia the trick Suburban. She can put a trailer into spots that no other tow vehicle can.
I wish that they still offered this feature.

That's great to hear! I was concerned that it might offer mechanical problems, or unusual towing concerns. Having had a regular Suburban, I can sure appreciate the idea of more maneuverability.
This 2005 2500 2WD has lots of tow goodies as standard equipment and comes with a tow cap of 12,000# and a payload of 2700#. I have not drive it yet, but plan to this morning.

You know, I never thought about the advantages of Quadrasteer for backing up a trailer. For general driving, it was like, "Why do we need a tighter turning radius?" But I definitely see the advantage for parking a trailer!

We bought this 3/4T Suburban with Quadrasteer. There are three settings, 2-4-Trailer. The manual is on order from dealer, so at the moment I do not know the meaning of that third setting. But, in "4" it spins on a dime! Well, ok a 42 foot dime. Quite nice, really.

We have always run our Quadrasteer Suburbans in one of the two four wheel steering selections. We use the regular setting for general driving and the trailer four wheel steering for towing. We have never used them in two wheel steering.
The Quadrasteer Suburbans are able to turn so tightly that you can go in the wrong direction down an angled parking lot aisle and turn into an opposite direction parking spot directly without having to back up.
In parking lots, people will notice the rear wheels turning to steer and stare at you while you park. Several years ago in a Wal-Mart parking lot, a passing pedestrian was so intent on watching the Quadrasteer in action that he walked into a parked car. Over the years I have been questioned about the Quadrasteer on many ocassions. Most people have told me that they did not even know that such a thing existed. This most often happens in campgrounds while trying to hook-up. If you don't care for people carefully watching you hook-up, you probably won't like having a Quadrasteer.
Having Quadrasteer is like having a "Magic Suburban".

Not sure how long this link will be good, but here's the whole listing for the car: 2005 Chevrolet Suburban for sale in Cathedral City - 1GNGC26U25R183973 - Jessup Auto Plaza
It's in beautiful condition. Has only 74,000 miles (not 87K as stated in the ad).
I only got to drive it home 3 miles, and then go to the doctor. So, tomorrow I will be able to wring it out a bit.

I'm one of those that have never heard of Quadrasteer and I have owned a Suburban before this one!
It must be rare?
I think it will be fun watching people watching us. Ha ha. Can't wait to find a tight camp space now.

What do you mean "tow mirrors?" I asked about the accordion stuff on the mirror shaft and sales guy thought it was decorative. Do these mirrors go outward?
We will probably be going back to Death Valley first. And just to be a proof run, I think we will take the Panamint Mountain Pass!

Look for a button inside to electrically extend and retract the mirrors.
Those are electric extendable towing mirrors.

If I think about it tomorrow I will look at one of our Silverados to see where the button is.

The ride is definitely firmer than my 2007 1/2T Suburban, and yet I wouldn't call it rough or harsh. And it is marvelously quiet inside. Barely any road noise, only the exhaust note which is not very loud.
Probably tomorrow we will hit the scales and see if we can get the hitch dialed in right away. I have to say, I caught the wife smiling ear to ear at the first stop light. I think her confidence has been restored.
