I am not debating the correctness of your comment.

But, I would have figured most of the R and D would have been completed, considering the common platform of the pickup and Suburban.

There are certainly folks that would be vastly better than me to make predictions of which car will sell and which won't, but kinda like my thermos keeps hot things hot and cold things cold, how does it know?

Regards,

JD

How does it know?

IT just goes to the marketing mavens. End of story.

I wouldn't despair just yet. Take a look at this brief article 2014 Suburban Updates & Changes | GM Authority.

Evidently GM's full-size SUVs won't be revamped until the 2015 models. They've done this before. The GMT700 pickups (Sierra and Silverado) were introduced in 1988 and the GMT700 versions of the SUVs (Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Yukon XL) were not introduced until 1992. The GMT800 pickups were introduced in 1999 while the SUVs of that version were introduced in 2000. The current production pickups and SUVs (GMT900) were all introduced together in 2007. However, the GMT900 was an updated body sitting on the same basic chassis and drivetrains as the predecessor GMT 800.

So I think that we'll have to wait until 2015 to see what the true fate of a 2500 (3/4 ton) Suburban/Yukon XL is. Maybe it will truly be discontinued. I hope not, as I'd like to replace my 2000 Yukon XL sometime. We'll see what happens. I also wonder what the status of the introduction of the 4.5 L Duramax is going to be.

JD with Chevrolet in the middle of a platform change there would be significant R&D required to develop the 2500-specific components, since nothing on the NNBS (2007-2015) Suburban would fit.

I haven't seen many rumors about the 2015. At one point it was supposedly going to be a unibody design, and if that's the case, they wouldn't be able to bring parts over from the pickups. Even if the 2015 'burb shares its basic frame design with the the pickups there are enough changes between truck and 'burb that it isn't simple.

Jack, I understand the the Yukon XL 2500 is gone too.

Boondockdad, hard to say since used 'burb prices have been fairly soft for several years. I think part of Chevy's problem is that the 2007-2013 burb 2500s don't represent much of an upgrade over the 1500 due to the loss of the 8.1; the 2006 could pull 12,000+ pounds while the newer ones max out at 10,000 with the 6.0. The 2006 and earlier 'burbs are too old to have a strong used market.

Me too! Most of the R & D was done when it was scrapped at BK time.

As far as the 2015...I've seen it, but I must be quiet till the press release. I need my job.

As a 2500 Suburban with a 8.1 I am saddened if this is true. I have owned 4 3/4 ton Subs abd they are such a great vehicle. We have 5 girls and short of a 3/4 ton van (ick), there is not much that works. Sure, if it was my wife and me only a truck would work.

My Airstream has a 8440 gvwr, full of family in the Sub puts me out of range of a 1/2 ton.

I know they are also a favorite with security teams, secret service and armoured conversions.

Say it aint so...

I guess when my 2500 with the 8.1 wears out I'll be looking at a crew cab Dodge.

When does GMC unveil their new line. I am anxious to see what the new Yukon will be.

After reading this thread yesterday I poked around on some other forums including GM Authority mentioned above. While I think it's safe to say that nobody knows the fate of the 2500 it does appear the Suburban will continue. I found some speculation that the chassis for the Suburban will have more in common with the trucks and therefore a 1500HD may be in the making. If this comes to pass along with sheet metal changes maybe, just maybe there's hope for a Duramax/Allison combination. That would be a great combination in my mind.

Until then, I'm going to continue dreaming about the DuraBurb discussed HERE.

Check out one of the latest DuraBurb videos HERE. Those guys down in central Florida Rock!
