A Somewhat Obscure Tekonsha Accessory

While doing some routine maintenance on the t/v to-day, I realized it was time to change the remote trans. filter. This was one of the first towing upgrades I did back in 1995 when we got the new Burb to tow our first A/S. Back then the Chevrolet Suburban was known as the "official" A/S t/v, and it just seemed like a good investment at the time. The temp gauge was the most important feature. If the grey matter serves me right, it was a J.C. Whitney item. Wev'e just turned 170k on the Burb, I can't prove that the filter has done anything to extend trans life, but being able to monitor the temp has supplied some piece of mind over these many miles! I haven't seen the unit in any of the recent Tekonsha catalogs, but a very similar unit is available on-line at Bulkpart Transmission Parts for about $90.00. If your rig doesn't have one, you might consider it, the piece of mind is worth the investment!!

The trans temp gauge is a cool thing.
My new Chevy Silverado has the trans temp built into the Driver Information Center.
I would really like to find that trans filter set-up too! That looks like a good add-on.
Thanks for sharing.

B & M Transmission makes a remote mount # 80277 which handles the Fram ph8 filter.

i hope those are auto bypass if the filter plugs.

and i think i would look for something other than a fram for it.

good concept overall!

The link for Bulkparts transmission parts won't up load for whatever reason. If ya want to ck it out, just Google. There is also a filter only version. And yes make sure you use a filter with a by-pass valve. Remember-out from the trans, into the filter-out to the cooler for the most accurate temp reading. BE SAFE.....KEEP STREAM'N
