Silverado Trailer Sway Control

Reading the manual on my 2011 Silverado 2500HD and trying to figure out how TSC works. The book just says if the system detects trailer sway the brakes are applied.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how the system detects trailer sway. It's a little strange to read how the truck will apply brakes and also may apply trailer brakes for me. I'm happy the system is there (I guess) but curious if it's just an extraneous bell and whistle or if it's really a useful feature.

In a nutshell, these systems have a sensor that detects sway and applies trailer brake to stop the sway, just as you would manually use the brake controller if you felt sway, but it can react much faster than you can and is more sensitive than you are. Terrific feature.

It's an extension of the electronic stability program these trucks already have... manufacturers realized they can detect when a trailer is connected, and send a braking signal to the trailer as well as individual tow vehicle tires if needed. It's really a software upgrade to the existing system...
