I think we are all in agreement (or nearly so). The bags are not the same as weight distrubution hitches but they will change the load on the front/rear to some degree.

I think the roll center of the vehicle enters into the equation when cinching the WD bars. For instance, if the roll center is near the rear axle you can get quite a bit of the weight to transfer forward. However, if the roll center is a significant distance from the rear axle it will be difficult to transfer much weight. Imagine a long wheelbase vehicle versus a short wheelbase vehicle. That's probably not a precise description but you get the idea.
