RUMOR: Diesel in Dodge 1500 trucks

I stumbled upon an article that may interest a few of you folks about Dodge putting a Cummins engine in the 2009 model 1500 series half ton trucks. Kind of a followup to the GM diesel article.

Ford will has announced the F150 diesel, using a Land Rover 3.6L or 4.4L (I have seen both numbers kicked around).

It should make a nice package if the Expedition Extended Length gets it.

Can you say, mad dash to save their bread and butter marketshare before the Asian automakers feed them their *&$#@.

Fleet MPG averages need to go up, so, seems like diesel is making a big comeback to the average Joe.

Big three aren't as dumb as I thought they were.

The sad part is that a lot of people have been asking for a reliable light duty diesel for at least 10 years. Too bad the GM 6.5 wasn't a better motor because I think a lot more would have been sold.

A diesel F150 is EXACTLY what I have been wanting. Be nice if it happens and is done well....

on edit: is that a 3.6L engine? That doesnt sound like much, or are the diesels different?

Lets see here. An F150 Diesel and a 22 Safari Sport.

The F150 will make a great commuter along with its towing duties.

The Safari Sport will be tens of thousands saved and fit in most driveways.

Airstreaming just got a whole lot cheaper and easier.

I found this on the fordf150.net forums:

"Did some more searching. It's speculated that the diesel to be used is a punched out version of the one being used in Europe. That motor is a 3.6L Twin-turbo V8 with 267hp and 472 torque that gets the Land Rover 31 mpg. The punched out version for the F150 would be a 4.4L. So with a little wishful thinking math....

the 4.4 is 22.5% bigger than the 3.6, 22.5% more HP is 327, 22.5% more torque is 578, and 22.5% less mpg (bigger motor) is 24 mpg. I could deal with that."
